There was an H20 Kalamar strapped to James Cameron's submersible???

It seems that these will be made in extremely limited numbers.

If H20 really accomplished such an amazing feat and they’re confident about it they’d publish on their website the testing methodology and go for Guiness world record. But they didn’t.

I see, thought you were referring to the deepsea challenge. Agreed, that claim definitely needs more transparent evidence.

Sorry, thought we were still discussing the deepsea challenge, which was strapped to JC's submersible.

Would people rather have Rolex made a perpetual calendar minute repeater on a croc strap?
The outrage is that this watch is merely a pissing contest Rolex has with Omega, I bet they would have never made that watch if the UltraDeep was not released earlier this year. The fact that Rolex never releases anything new outside Baselworld/Watches and Wonder goes to show you that this was not planned at all. They just scrambled this monstrosity by using a movement they already have and put it in the smallest case that could endure such a pressure. At least the Ultradeep is making an attempt at being wearable, it's a more impressive diver than what Rolex has rushed to produce, so they would not live in the shadows of a more innovative company.

Hell yeah! A Rolex perpetual calendar minute repeater on a croc strap sounds absolutely awesome to me!

Good luck... but I'm sorry to say I can't help thinking it'll look like a manhole cover on your wrist.

And I think the jury's still out on "investment piece" with this one as it's going to have a very very niche appeal. If I was you I'd forget about "investment" and buy something you can actually wear.

All the people screaming that this is a new technical achievement by Rolex are forgetting that it’s something Rolex and Omega have both done before.

Here’s the Omega Ultra Deep going into the same Trench.

Given how big wears on you the JC I guess you plan to put the challenge on the ankle right?

Lol it is not small! Super heavy too!
I actually think the opposite. The hulk hogan could potentially be the mother of all investments. It is so out of the box for rolex, size, depth, markings at the back, titanium. This gets discontinued no body cares how it wears… but who knows with rolex…

I also wish they'd done something more unique with it, like a special alloy or colorway or something. As it is it's just a gigantic, bog standard grade 5 titanium case, tested in a lab. Maybe someday it will actually get field tested? That would be worth some street cred at least.

Haven’t seen any published specs on the alloy they’re using. I don’t think you can assume RLX is plain grade 5 Ti.

They field tested the prototype and every piece gets tested to spec plus 25%. They’re going to be expensive if you want Rolex to drill a 3Km hole at the bottom of the Mariana Trench and batch test down there instead.

Since the thread was revived... and for those who are interested... my article on how Rolex was able to build and test the ultimate watch of the deep from a small country known for its ski slopes and lakes.

I tried on the Ultradeep with the sSilicone strap about an hour ago.
I quite like it a lot
I was toying with the idea of the Challenger but if I were to go Titanium with my wrist size I think I can manage the Titanium UD. It fits the profile of a little something I've been looking for on a fabric strap
