Thanks Dave. Too kind. Why can’t I find a cheap hobby?? Oh well. I think these shoes will outlive me...so I guess paying for quality is a good thing. |

Cool, I really like my split toes and find them extremely useful. I not only have a few split toe shoes but a few boots as well. A couple in Kudu actually and the aprons are handsewn which is rather cool I think. I don't get much use out of my black cap toe oxfords either but they are there when I need them. For me it would have been kind of odd to have so many fairly nice shoes and boots and then not have a black cap toe oxford when I could use one.

I especially like the blue oxfords. Also, the ladder lacing is a nice touch. I’ve done that to some of my shoes and plan to do it to them all. Is that lacing style common in Europe? |

I agree with you. My wife wears shoes (though not dress shoes) that scream of high end branding that I think are hideous and worn by peacocks. Her dress shoes are not much better, IMO. When she asks my opinion, I tell her this and finish off with, “they aren’t my feet, if you like them, rock the hell out of them!”. She knows I’m an “unfiltered feedback but supportive” kind of husband. I’m more conservative. I wear vintage inspired boots from Redwing and Lucchese. However, I want to step up my work shoes. Which is why I’m reading through this thread. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Looking for solid, beautiful, hand made shoes from the USA? I’ve had a spectrum of dress shoes that span from Rockports to Magnanni to Ferragamos, but before recently I never had such comfortable well made shoes as Allen Edmonds. They are simply on another level; I’m on my feet all day, walking 12,000-15,000 steps for those 8-10 hours, and I will leave them on when I get home to cook dinner. They are that comfortable. 8 pairs later... here we are lol

To tell you the truth I didn't know what ladder lacing meant :-) so I did some research and the way my shoes are tied is called shoe shop lacing. https://www.fieggen.com/shoelace/shoeshoplacing.htm |

Crockett and Jones actually makes two grades of shoes and boots. Bench Grade and Hand Grade. So would you compare them to their Bench Grade or Hand Grade level?

I went to a Gaziano & Girling trunk show when they came to my town. One of the founders helped me. (G&G had set up their show in a local snobby retailer.) At any ratel they took my measurements for a MTO Derby... The trial shoes were to come back in 3 weeks. I heard nothing from the retailer for nearly 4 MONTHS. After no follow up, I told the retailer he could keep the trial shoes. Apparently they were sitting around for a long time / no outreach. Sorry for the rant... I love the Cleverly shape "suspiciously square toe"...but to pay those prices for a pair of black oxfords I would rarely wear, would be tough. Maybe I will look for an extra wide pair RTW. |
