Steve - looking at the circuit diagram. Where can you put a 2nd DRS?

Bad luck for RUS - caught out by a R/F then rain in Q2.
Starts 11th - would have likely been into Q3 - racing rain goddesses. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

Hamilton would have been out in Q1 had it not been for a technical issue with Ocon's car.
Q2 and Q3 were pretty much a lottery if you stayed on track. More offs than I can remember. KMag giving it a little Willy before coming up to the wall so he didn't get beached was incredible. How are sprint race and full race conditions for Sat and Sun? If wet, I imagine the order will be scrambled. |

The Official Formula One Thread!
The F1 Sprint Qually would be more interesting if they inverted the grid for first 5 rows (like F2 does).

Agree. No logical place for another DRS zone. Did everyone see where the DRS detection zone is? LOL. No slowing for that line. It's going to be a great sprint race with only 1 DRS zone and 8 positions that pay points.

Just because you don't have long straights doesn't mean you can't have a DRS zone. DRS zones include corners. Some DRS zones give more opportunity than others, but that doesn't mean there is any minimum kind of road contour that is required for a DRS zone. Obviously some DRS zones will yield greater benefits than others.
DRS is not just for top speed it is also for acceleration out of a corner and continued acceleration anywhere in circumstances where the car in front is within 1 second of the driver behind. You could have the whole track DRS if you wanted.

DRS is allowed at all times during practice and qualifying sessions. You won’t see drivers open the wing everywhere for good reason.
Aero grip via downforce is needed when cornering. Opening DRS in corners would result in low grip and you’d slide off the track. If it was allowed at all times during a race, there’d be no reason for it. It would result in predictable outcomes that it was intended to avert. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

Who said to open DRS in a corner?

The Official Formula One Thread!
If you look at Imola, there is no meaningful segment without a chicane or a corner where a 2nd DRS zone would help overtake in a race.
That was my context when you opined about the single zone this weekend. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

Not sure why but Nico Rossberg is one of the worlds most irritating commentators. I don’t know why

For me it’s because he was never really that good to begin with (relatively) so I look at what he says with a “meh”. I mean maybe they should team him up with Takuma Sato for giggles? If fate had not intervened, how great or terrible would it be to have MSC as a commentator today Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I like your Sato Idea they could have him and Maldonado team up and announce on a channel somewhere. That would really have some interesting takes.

I think I’m actually enjoying non DRS through the race more. The drivers have to work a bit harder for it. Other races every time they get within 1.5 secs the writing was on the wall. It’s kind of enjoyable not knowing and having to work for the spot.

I actually like his commentary, his inside knowledge of Mercedes team dynamics and his fighting Lewis for the championship is interesting to me. Plus he's usually wearing a Rolex

MV won the Laureus 2021 award, world sportsman of the year.
Must be a real winning mood in the Red Bull team after this weekend. Still a long season ahead but it’s not a mission impossible anymore for MV to win the title

I would have loved to actually know what Ham was thinking or saying when Ver lapped him. That had to be so frustrating. To know your car is that bad.
Anyone know what his contract looks like? Didn’t he sign a two year extension. I wonder if Merc continues to not figure it out if he could opt out and leave. Bonehead lapse of judgement by Leclerc. As a RIC fan that sucked. He was totally at fault and just stupid. He didn’t need to do that on lap one. Settle in his car was good. |

It's great to see McLaren/Norris up on the podium, Alfa/Bottas mixing it up in the points and some of the midfield racing. Not a great weekend for Ferrari. Not Carlos' fault this time, but that's 2 races in a row where he didn't get past T2. Red Bull is just 11 points behind Ferrari for the WCC. Where should we begin with the GOAT? Young George, the new, younger and less experienced teammate has finished every race this year no lower than 4th place. If we include the sprint race, Russell has finished in front of Hamilton 4 of the 5 races. Hamilton is exactly who I and several have said he was for years, a good, but not great driver who has had the benefit of having the best car on the grid for the majority of his career and the most dominant car in F1 history the last 10 years. Here is the basic breakdown. Lewis cannot drive a car that isn't the fastest on the grid and isn't good in dirty air. Conversely, Russell has been in a POS Williams for 3 years, biting and scratching for everything he could. This Mercedes is the 3rd best car on the grid and a great deal better than the Williams George has driven for the past 3 years and he's maximizing everything he can from it. Hard times makes strong men. I was watching the post race coverage and Nico Rosberg said that that radio message to Lewis was all about head games (his words not mine). Nico also said that Lewis can get really down mentally when things aren't going perfect for him and Toto is trying to keep him "motivated". (Didn't know a 7X WDC needed to be given motivation to race a car for $50m a year...). He finished up his comments on the Mercedes current situation as perplexing in that George Russell has been able to deal with the current car but Lewis just cannot. In that same interview, Rosberg said that he didn't understand why LeClerc made such a mistake when he didn't have anyone pressuring him from behind and he was the one trying to put pressure on Perez. Nico's face then lit up when he said that there is no scarier person behind you and putting on pressure than Max. He characterized Max as "relentless" and "an animal". |
