[QUOTE=nursejm;7784982]Nice job sir.. how did you fix the gouge, you laser weld the dent?/QUOTE]
I can't give away all our secrets, but I can say that it includes a very skilled watch maker who's old enough to be my grandpa, and for the last 2 years has acted as a surrogate grandfather to me, and a parts oven and quite a bit of heat, and the softest hands and lightest touch I've ever seen. With the package already back in the mail and on its way back to Thomas, Id like to take this time to say a few things and thank the forum. Through this messy situation a few things stood out to me, and I think a lesson or two can be learned. When I was growing up, I didn't have the closest relationship with my father, but did with my grandfather. Besides turning me on to my love of rolexes (he wore a datejust identical one I have in my avatar), he taught me two valuable lessons; first was to always leave things better than you found them, and the second was when you have the ability to help someone, you do it regardless of the cost, as there will be a point in time in your life when you'll need help, and if you've lived your life the right way, it will find you by means you aren't sure to see in the moment. Those words have led me here both to the forum and where I am today in life. Numerous members on here have PM'd me with congratulations on my degree and for getting Thomas's watch fixed. I reply with many thanks in return, and a much larger thank you to the community at large here and the lessons it has taught me and for being a part of the amazing journey I've had over the last 6 years. More on my own story here if you'd like to read it, and I hope it'll inspire someone to make positive changes in their life https://umdearborn.edu/news/articles...familys-future As many of you know and have read I both work for an AD, and sell quite a number of parts and watches on the forum. My job and much of what I do here started as a hobby and the quest to find an identical datejust which my grandfather wore, and as a way to help pay my way through school. Its a bittersweet feeling writing all of this, as I finish my degree which has taken me 6 years, and in roughly 18 days, I will be resigning from my position and moving to Ft. Myers for a career I've dreamed of in the pre-employment background screening and drug testing industry. Moreover this place has taught me more lessons in business than I could have ever learned in a classroom, and I've had the absolute pleasure of working with some of the finest people around the world here. From New Zealand to Dubai, and just about everywhere in between I've had the chance to not only do business with people all around the world, but was able to bring happiness and tremendous joy because of what I did with something that I loved, and to me, that was the greatest reward, never the money. I don't believe once I move I'll continue to do parts/watch sales, though the offer has stood from my employer, the 1300 miles that will separate us and the speed I like to move at add variables I don't like or will want to work around, and I want to focus all my energy towards my new position. Thomas, I hope you absolutely love the watch. It's got a story to tell now, so you have to keep it. For everyone else from the bottom of my heart, thank you. I've had the absolute privilege of dealing with some of the finest people around the world, and have made some amazing friends because of it. Thank you all for the advise, support, listening ears, the friendship. I'm probably the luckiest guy in the world, and this forum has been a part of it. Thanks again, William.

William, you are a success story and a good human. I wish you nothing but success and happiness as you begin your next journey. There is no bigger joy than achieving great things to inspire our children. You are her hero and that is the way it should be.

This thread started as a sad tale of deception and dishonesty where members argued over whether there was fraud involved and some actually criticized Thomas for overreacting. In the end, William stepped up and turned lemons into lemonade with an amazingly kind gesture and provided us all with a happy ending. As William mentioned, now the watch has the story to tell. Thomas, I too hope that you keep and cherish this watch as the kindness of William has far more weight on it than the dishonesty of the seller.

What an amazing story. William, congrats on the new position and recent graduation. You've received great advice from your grandfather and put it into action. Karma points abound for you :)

First, a big congrats on completion of your degree. I know, first hand, how challenging, and stressful that can be. I finished my degree at WSU as a non-trad some years back and I remember feeling like somethings missing after I came home from work... like I should be doing more work. Enjoy it! A lesson my grandfather taught me was, anything worth doing is worth doing well. You clearly have this work ethic. Fantastic job on the watch! And best wishes for your new career path!!!! |
