With the pandemic, I have to make an appointment to get into my safe deposit drawer. I showed up a little early and a lady with a heavy German accent, whom I'd never seen before, met me at the door.

I told her that I was there for my 1230 appointment and she scolded me saying that I was thirty minutes early and the 1200 client had just shown up.

So, I held out my arm to show her the time (I was wearing my 1503), and said that it was 1210 and that I was only 20 minutes early.

She then said that she didn't even see the time, because she was admiring my "beautiful Rolex."

I thanked her for the compliment and she told me to have a seat in the waiting area.

I again thanked her and told her that that was what I'd planned on doing all along.

It was very funny, because when I showed up in jeans, a t-shirt, boating shoes, and a baseball cap (my usual attire, by the way), it was like she was guarding Ft.Knox and after she saw the watch, she was like, "Oh, welcome aboard! Have a seat and make yourself comfortable."

About a minute later she came up and said that since I was there to get into my safe deposit drawer that she'd have a gentleman with me, just as soon as he got off the phone.

As I left, I showed her my BLNR and she was very pleasant.

The usual staff know me and as soon as they see me, they know what I'm there for, no hoopla at all.

Been wearing one every single day, just as I did before this damned pandemic. Anyone that wears a watch for themself is probably doing the same.

This week I noticed a 116500 black dial, a PP 5712, an AP 15500, what I think was an AP 15300, a RM, lots of Hublots, lots of Subs, more DJ’s, tons of casios and even more Apple watches.

I can count on 1 hand how many times if had someone notice my watch. 1st time was a long time ago with a crappy Tommy Bahama $80 fashion watch. 2nd was a blue Omega SMP 300 Diver. 3rd was my old 16710 BLRO. Other than that no one has noticed any of my watches, or at least hasn't commented on them.

95% of people don't care and don't notice. The other 4.9% may notice but won't say anything to you about it. The other .1% are on this forum and you will never run into them.

If find these threads amusing. First of all, the OP has posed two very distinct questions.

Do people notice?...you’ll never really know how many.

Do people comment?...in my case, rarely.

I’ve had several compliments on my 16760 and a few on my Doxa 1200. Some were watch geeks, some weren’t. I wear my watches for my pleasure but it’s cool to get a compliment every once in a while.

I have only had one person compliment my explorer, I wear a tt bluesy most days. It seems I look for Rolex’s in the wild more than people noticing mine. Which is fine maybe they notice but don’t say anything. I don’t care

I’ve been (stupidly, I suppose) surprised that the only people who focus on my watch are in Rolex shops : ), which is fun. They’re watch people.

I’ve had two watches at work. A Batman gmt or a Tudor north flag or a yacht master. Changed watches after swimming at lunch ... no comment. Only members of our tribe notice watches.

The only people who notice a Rolex are mostly those that own Rolex.

They're not watch people, they work in sales and are sizing up your purchasing power.

It's kinda funny nobody really notice or react to a watch in public as the majority of you reports. I have the same experience with my 18 years old watch. Had it from new and used it almost every day. One time in that long period of time a stranger has said anything about the watch and that was >10 years ago now.

In the contrary I get lots and lots of commends on my car (Old 2014 w204 Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG stationwagon). Also by non-car people who just want to say its a lovely car or casual stuff like that. Also have longs talks with car-guys who want to share their passion and hear about the car (and hear the car ;P )

Its different things, I know, but kinda the same "luxury" item. Just that people i generel don't give as much for watches maybe?

I wouldn’t call your Benz old. Love the C63 Wagons. Such a sleeper, at a moments notice you could blow the doors off of most cars while bringing home ice cream before it melts for the family.

I collected a client yesterday to take to a Michelin star restaurant (I have a Chauffeur business) got talking about high end restaurants and how i had sat outside most of them, he then said "maybe so but that's a nice watch" don't know if wearing for my business is good or not.

One young guy in a small town liquor store commented on my Pelagos and knew exactly what it was, which floored me. He was definitely into watches. A handful of "nice watch, what is it?" comments as well, which are fun to answer.

Less fun to answer were the "is that a real Rolex" comments that I got on the Submariner. That one attracted a lot of attention in the few months I had it. Somewhat uncomfortable.

Oddly enough for a big chunk of a watch, DSSD has gotten ZERO comments since I've had it, which is great. From the experience of the SubC and DSSD back to back, I'm fairly certain the Cyclops is the real attention grabber and makes people think ROLEX
