I'm very sceptical about the number of Hulks. Can it be a typo and more like 28,710 and not 228,710. As Eric said he hasn't seen enough of them, something like 10 black Subs to 1 Hulk. But then 28,710 is too low or is it not.

It would be interesting know what evidence this person has that the book is 'utterly factually incorrect', and more importantly how they know that, for example, the production numbers are wrong. The only people who can know for certain the production numbers, the debates behind the development of the watch, who was involved, the exchange of letters etc are Rolex themselves and their archives.
I've got the book, and have now read it in its entirety, and while there are some errors, overall I found it an interesting read and worth it. From my other reading, both online and from other 'unauthorised' books on Rolex, I certainly didn't find it 'utterly factually incorrect'.

I'd suggest the figures for the 'Hulk' are possibly reasonably accurate. The Submariner Ref 116610LV was produced between 2010 and 2020, a ten year run, with 228,710 produced in total over that period. There are currently 1,446 authorised Rolex dealers worldwide. I don't know how many dealers there were 10 years ago, or how many have ceased being ADs in that 10 year period, nor how many have come onboard, but assuming that the number of ADs has remained around the same, that equates to an approximate production of around 22,871 'Hulks' a year, which in turn, assuming all ADs got an exactly equal share, (and yes, I appreciate that some will have a higher allocation than others), means each AD would get around 15 or 16 116610LV Subs a year.
So a total production of 228,710 over ten years, to cover the entire global network of ADs and countries doesn't feel to high.

I wouldn't be surprised if a substantial proportion of the Hulks was in Asia, green having a special attractive meaning in some of their cultures. I remember seeing footage of dealers in Hong Kong for example having tens of Hulks in stock.

On the ceramic TT blue Sub, breakdown is as follows:

- 116613LB (2012-2019): 143k or 20.4k a year
- 126613LB (2020- ): 78k in 2024, or 19.5k a year

Don't know about the WG blue dial Sub.

Interesting that production basically doubled from 16610LN to 116610LN.

Still feels pretty exclusive when you factor in that it averages to 30 per year to each AD.

However, I also find it interesting that my Panerai 00048 is 1 of 1000 produced within its year…. Uses an ETA though I suppose it’s more AND less exclusive at the same time lol.

Looks like the 126610LN is on pace to have an even higher number as well!

Weird too that there’s more LV’s than 114060’s! Unless I’m remembering what I read incorrectly.

Yes that seems to be a plausible theory. Those Chinese Hulks won't be hitting the market again in my opinion.

I had a grey dealer just tell me that he read the WG 116619 Smurf total production is 13,700 over ten years. Wow. Thats a low low number for the world

I think people are excited because it's an official Rolex product.

But even as someone who bought it it's clearly garbage compared to the stuff the community has been releasing with people like Dowling.

Just get one or both of these from Amazon or eBay. They're old, but surely more interesting than a book whose sole talking point here seems to be listed model production numbers. As mentioned earlier, a Rolex-authorised book will just be a glorified brochure, silk-bound or not.

Finally started flipping through the official Submariner book today and there has been a major mistake on every page I’ve flipped to. And I’m not by any means an expert like Padi or others.

It even gets basic things wrong that actual Rolex print ads got right. How did this thing pass quality control?

Perhaps I should sell this to some super fan because this book is basically useless. Not sure what the appeal is besides the Rolex imprimatur.
