They can ask any price they want.

If we all start offering MSRP, does that create the market price? Until they start selling, it really doesn't matter.

I'm going to laugh as Rolex (and others) continue to produce at increased or steady numbers. They know they can still sell virtually everything at MSRP; they don't care what the secondary market can or can't do. All it will mean is that actual end users get watches without a zero value added middleman.

18 months ago I got literally laughed at walking into a new AD and asked if it was possible to get on a list for a BLNR or Sky Dweller (my AD lost status in 2019, so I had to start from scratch). Fast forward to December & I was able to get on a list with zero issues. Heck, I was offered a PM Sub as a walk in. No, I haven't gotten "the call" yet, but the SA is staying in contact with me; not the other way around.

Long story short, I think it's sooner, rather than later that gray market prices will get a HARD reality check.

to be fair, getting on a list isn't an indication of anything slowing down even if it is. we all know most of these lists are fake anyway. watches prices are definitely down but until you can see those steel pieces in cases available to buy nothing's changed except for the grey bubble bursting. we haven't even seen PM pieces be available in cases yet and those are below msrp on the grey market

I ask because there are plenty of listings for those kind of prices here, moda, c24, etc but they are not moving.

I bought a sub from my AD this morning and they said things are getting pretty bad. The SA said that they are making a good amount of calls to move " in demand " pieces. " The faucet has slowed to a drip. " His words exactly.

They take care of local customers above and beyond and never raked anyone over the coals as far as I have heard. They did encourage purchases to get ultra hot pieces and that is understandable.

Refreshing to hear an AD be upfront. Here in LA the boutiques still have nothing in them but I am not sure how that comports with what your AD is saying. To me, AP, Rolex, PP, etc. will keep the cases empty no matter what and never let on that things are changing.

My guys were really good through this whole thing. They didn't really sell to outsiders as the local clientele kept it moving. You would hate them if you weren't local.

LA and the big cities are definitely on a different playing field than my local guy. My situation is definitely a narrower brush but it is happening.

Totally! Def not apples to apples. However I can’t see any reason in the world most ADs would ever let on demand is down. Most are still acting like business as usual. Friend was told it would be a 3 year wait for a ROO. These are going for below retail now and have been for awhile. Friend told AD that and AD refuses to address it lol.

In my area, AD is starting to have watches in the cases. Also, semi in demand pieces, like SS SD, SS explorer II, TT and PM Daytona.

Most are still listed as "display only" but are, in fact, for sale. Not for every "flipper" who comes in, but for the ones who look like a legit customer who wants the watch to use.

They have also reopened the lists for the more in demand pieces, even though they claim them to be very hard still, and of course, try to sell the lesser attractive watches first.

Of course, it is not the same in every area and AD.

Don't listen to what they say, but try to ask for a TT or PM piece first. Then you will know the availability in that AD.

The availability is surely getting better.

Just visited my AD. A lot more watches on display. SA volunteered asking if I will be interested in a stainless steel yacht master 40. I declined as it’s not something I really want

I completely understand it's not the same as an allocation, but going from literally being laughed at and refusing to take my information, to actually staying in regular contact with me would indicate they are actually concerned and planning for a continued downturn/increased availability.

Huge difference in attitude.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I refuse to pay 50% or greater markup to a middleman for a mass produced watch that is still in production. I'm also pretty sure that the numbers of people like me are growing faster than those dumping big money because of "hype". I've got more watches than I do wrists or days of the week; somehow I'll manage if I never get the call.

Royal oak seriously lacks mass appeal. Could be in for some dark days.

Show a pic of a Rolex and a pic of a RO to pretty much anyone and they'll pick the Rolex. There just isn't enough of us nerds to keep royal oak afloat once the insta hype and flippability is gone. Rolex will fare far better.

I'm buying in the 20s. Still waiting

They’ve been falling like a rock. BNIB fullset in the high 20s.

No increase

He means MSRP which is rumored to be moving up to shake people off the wait list.

Oh interesting. On a percentage basis, what is the increase?

No clue. That's what he was asking but no data yet. Probably will be in line with royal oak. +15% to high 25s maybe.

VC used to be priced higher than AP before their recent price increases. $19.6k to 22.5k was 4500V's last increase a couple years ago.

Tyler's ZH takeaway:
"So if you're trying to buy the dip in the luxury watch market, the insight the heads of at least two Swiss watch companies give is that demand is slowing, thus more supply, and likely more downward pressure of secondary market prices."

I've been looking. '12' model BLNR's are going for 15.5 to 15.8 on Moda.

The nepobaby CEOs like Thierry are about to find out they were just recipients of ZIRP blessings. Zero earned experience.
