Trefethen Dragon's Tooth Red Blend 2016

Bordeaux Red Blends from Napa Valley, California

http://www.trefethen.com/?method=pag...-Dragons-Tooth

Varietal

47% Malbec

27% Petit Verdot

23% Cabernet Sauvignon

3% Merlot

Appellation

Oak Knoll District of Napa Valley

Estate Vineyard

100% Main Ranch

Winemaker Notes

This alluring blend has rich aromas of ripe red plum, baking spices, and cracked pepper. The palate is lush with flavors of cherries and dark berries. Malbec brings color and diversity of fruit; Petit Verdot and Cabernet Sauvignon lend the darker fruits and robust structure. Merlot rounds out the mid-palate and brings an elegant freshness to the wine. While in its youth, this wine will benefit from decanting before serving.

This blend shines with leaner cuts of meat like flank, sirloin, and skirt steak.

I love Trefethen! Dragon’s Tooth is one of my favorites from the winery!

Tonight's selection. Took a bit to open up and for the bret to air away. It was still a bit tight after two hours but it was time to go home so down the hatch it went. Good bottle, oldest one I had in my cellar to date.

I hate how wine stores display wines, especially high dollar wines. They should be cork down or at least on its side to keep the cork wet. Standing up or angled up is the worst way to display a wine. I know they want to show the label but higher end wine that doesnt sell too often could have been on that shelf with its cork drying out for some time.

I agree. I Never buy the display bottle. They have multiple bottles stacked horizontally below the display bottle.

LOVE tusk - and the 94 Mouton is SPECTACULAR.

No need to talk about the DRC - I’ve been itching to open a bottle here recently.

Cheers my friend!!

Thanks Roger! It's so hard to leave any expression from DRC alone and let it properly age, but this is a vintage that's been drinking really well lately from what I've read and if our offer on a house gets accepted it's going to be hard not popping one for our first dinner in the new digs.

The bottom of the Scarecrow OWC looks pristine. I heard they were having issues with the new OWC this year. Mine came in without any issue either but I have seen pics on other wine boards that looked bad.

Yes the early boxes had issues, people in my groups also posted some broken OWC's but luckily everyone's bottles were fine. Must cheaper wood this year or variable foam density LOL don't know
