Merc going to be salty for the rest of the year. They must make up bs stuff to drive the investor/sponsorship attention to someone else besides their mistakes on the track/internal struggles with drivers. This is F1! Redbull looking like saints while Merc and Ferrari drive off the track! Ignore the noise. It's really fun watching these top execs making up the most bs crap not to get canned. I like Zac Brown, but my favorite line from him is "I'm in it for the long game". Yea me too, I want to get CEO paid for a long time too.

The "reprimand" for driving with loose belts comes with a 10 grid spot penalty for this weekend's Monza race.

Verstappen has the 2022 title in the bag, so its all academic.

Mercedes is not in a position to win the 2022 title.

Ferrari was but too many mistakes and bad luck have taken their toll on the teams chances to win the 2022 title.

100% agree Steve. Congrats to VER and team Red Bull for an excellent 2022 racing season. They earned it for sure

Mercedes and Ferrari should start working on their 2023 car and let whatever they have now run its course with perhaps just a few aero bits updates. No 'need' to continue developing their current car as they'll both score about the same points into the final bits of F1's 2022 season imho.

Agree Steven. The Merc is not a bad car in the race with heavy fuel - they just need to work on qualifying and low fuel loads and that car will be right there up front.

I'm sticking to my prediction during the summer break that Merc will overtake Ferrari for 2nd in the Constructors title this year. They're only 30 pts. behind with 8 races to go.

Yes he hit the threshold even though this was a non-driving reprimand because the other 4 were for driving issues.

He seems to need more situational awareness that only comes with experience.

Bahrain - Impeding LEC in FP2.
Australia - Impeding SAI in FP2.
Australia - Driving too slow, Qually in-lap.
Monaco - Impeding MAG in FP2.

I agree with your overall analysis that the release itself wasn’t SAI’s sole fault. The McLaren jackman had a part to play. The decision on safeness is very contextual and opinions may vary. So I’m not debating that - just sharing why it is now 5 sec.

After the 2019 German GP, the Constructors and Competitors unanimously demanded a change after another incident in pitlane during that race.

They demanded time penalties as the punishment for unsafe releases during a race - and the FIA accepted the concerns.

After that, fines were replaced with 5 sec. for unsafe releases during a race.

So hopefully this provides the background of why the penalty is 5 sec.

Thank you for the background on that. Carlos was interviewed about the incident and also thought the time penalty was not fair given the circumstances (although "saved a life" may be a bit of an exaggeration given the speed), it certainly could have been a bad injury.

I don’t know if the team has filed for a livery change to go yellow. But the team colors are definitely announced.

The last time a yellow F1 car was on course in 1961…

How do you like that Fire Marshal ?

Of course, facing flow to jump out of the way of any wayward car…

Considering home-court advantage, truly do hope that Ferrari can finally string together a solid 1-2 finish.

Well…it’s a time tested and a generally accepted aerodynamic principle that yellow slows down a car.

Find one on the grid.

Also Enzo never raced another yellow car after that one finished 4th behind all his other red ones.

I think they are meddling with the forces of nature…

The number of cars going to the back of grid - or getting 5, 10, 15 grid drops - will make this a silly Saturday Qually methinks. So far, among top teams, includes: HAM VER SAI PER. A couple of others: BOT, TSU.

All for various power unit elements and related gearbox, aux., etc.

props to de Vries and his strong showing once again.

it's time to get rid of some of this dead wood in the FIA and replace them with some fresh blood.

Man this grid classification gives me a headache with all the PU penalties and tiebreakers and “back of the grid” stuff”.

I’d prefer a €250k fine per PU beyond the limit and let the spending cap force them into more responsible design.

It’s just going to be a jumble into T1.

How about adding 10 kgs plus a currency penalty? Adding weight for each overage, so could be 40 kgs or more by the end of season if they replace 4 units.

Good race but disappointing finish. Although the yellow flag was needed, would have been great to have the red flag until Daniel's car was removed, and then have a grandstand finish.

The announcers as well as the Tifosi and viewers wanted a R/F and then standing restart with a 3 lap race.

I get that, but what advantages Ferrari also disadvantages many more others.

The safety car dispatch was delayed, then caught wrong car…

The actual decision for a R/F is grounded in F1 rule 57.

57) SUSPENDING A SPRINT SESSION OR A RACE

57.1 “If Competitors or officials are placed in immediate physical danger by cars running on the track, and the clerk of the course deems circumstances are such that the track cannot be negotiated safely, even behind the safety car, the sprint session or the race will be suspended.

Should it become necessary to suspend the sprint session or the race, the clerk of the course will order red flags to be shown at all marshal posts and the abort lights to be shown at the Line.”

My boldface is where the RD didn’t have a reasonable cause to suspend the race IMHO.

Ferrari didn't screw anything up today, Max just has superior pace in the Red Bull.

What a disappointing end to the race. This is exactly why Masi had Hamilton and Max race for the win and ultimately, the title last year in Abu Dhabi. It should always be decided on track, mano a mano.

Don't know if it was the FIA or F1 who made the call to continue on with the SC instead of a red flag, but everyone was robbed of seeing a fantastic finish to the race. Again, so many mistakes with the safety car, picking up the wrong car on track etc. Just a cluster F. Come'on, this is a World Championship. Do better. The immediate danger would have been the 3 marshals with their hands on their hip saying we can't move the car. When the cherry picker came on track, there was a Williams slightly over on track that looked too dangerous to me. Not a good look for F1.

Congratulations to DEV on his debut.  It should be clear to everyone that the Williams is not the slowest car in the field and with Albon and another "good" driver, they will score many more points than they are currently earning.

With the exception of Verstappen, I think Russell is having a brilliant season. Almost 2nd in the driver's championship, which is amazing considering Mercedes is only the third best car this year.

EDIT: There was absolutely no need for a red flag. This flag is not used to make the race more interesting, but to stop the race if it is not safe to continue even behind the SC.

DEV keeps his finish despite an offense during SC period. He might have been given a 5 sec. penalty for erratic driving.

There was an investigation and he apparently did a good job in the Stewards room, too. Mild Reprimand…
