Well the same thing can be said for all consumer products.

How many people come to the forum asking about this years new Rolex models? Desperately seeking info on new releases and discontinued items?

This is ingrained in a consumer culture. The reality is that the larger the installed base the larger the upgrade numbers are seen and analyzed for better or worse.

The service revenue and the adoption rates of wearables and cloud are the real keys, the phone is just the way in.

Intuit's a great company; I had a chance to visit their HQ and I came away very impressed.

If they scooped up BIGC, that would be a huge move into the e-commerce space for them.

We might not ever get that dip on bigc. should’ve bought today but I guess you had a point on waiting for some financials. Guess we will see on September 9

Haha, yes - good for those that got in thus far, but I'm willing to wait to see how the company performs over a few months (or quarters) before jumping into a fresh IPO.

Yep, the example I always use is that HP makes a ton more money on ink than they do on printers. I was primarily implying my own frustration with my iPhone always being obsolete every few years - thank goodness my company replaces mine every two years (yet still annoying).

Facebook says new iOS update could trim in-app ad business by more than half

https://seekingalpha.com/news/360904...-business-half

Great news for those who do not like having their data sold and spied on just for using a device.

they're not at all obsolete every few years... they just need a new battery!

(this wisdom comes in my capacity as an iphone owner and not as an AAPL shareholder )

More info on APPS.

Not as large part of my portfolio, but the growth possibilities are enough to warrant a long position IMO.

I have 10 positions at the moment, and not looking to add anymore companies...but I'm always watching, so you never know.

Prefer to just accumulate shares in my current holdings.

It’s the razor and blade format

Sell the razor for a modest amount, charge a lot for the blades.

The entire market is hype and FOMO. Personally not touching it at this point.

Total hype IMO. If you need to be in the electric vehicle space, there truly is one obvious leader there.

It’s the format not the amount.

Think printers and ink cartridges for a more modern example.

I understand that but you're missing my point.

iPhones cost $1,000; batteries cost like $50 and you only need to buy one after 2-3 years.

not similar to razors/ink cartridges or whatever other analogy you come up with...

Definitely different this year as there hasn't been a big physical redesign in about 4 years. Couple that with 5G capabilities and we have what they are calling a super cycle on our hands this year. I personally know so many that are upgrading this year. I'm definitely long AAPL.

FB doing well too, glad I caught the dip with the ad boycott dropping it to 200 not long ago, that was never going to last long.

What a friendly bear. Some might say “detached from reality” is sugarcoating.

Ya, I am also long AAPL and FB (got in at that same dip around 214 or 216 can’t remember - but it was a no brainer). My wife’s iPhone has been ready for an upgrade once she got, but that was because she dropped it lol (the internals vibrate at every notification, even the silent ones). We’ll also be upgrading hers this year.

Watching GDP numbers and comments from Jay Powell. I expect that the statement from the Fed will be largely unchanged.

Hurricane Laura will add pressure to the materials space which is already seeing very high demand and HD, LOW and others in the construction space will likely keep moving higher.

Floor & Decor and other retailers expected to pick up extra hurricane-related sales

Quick decision to give up on that difficult post, huh? And I bet he regrets the decision to leave DIS so fast too.

We'll see how the market reacts. Just sharing the news here; I'm no expert when it comes to inflation and have no real insight / opinion either way.

Futures moving higher with the speech, inflation is already here just not across the board that moves the needle towards 2%. Food, Lumber, Gold . . . but the employment picture is key

Market does seem to be taking Powell's message relatively well thus far.

https://seekingalpha.com/news/360929...ection-company

Excellent acquisition by FSLY here; they continue to make great strides to strengthen the company.
