It got a single bid at the starting price and therefore the final price was that + buyer's premium: CHF 37,800. That's like $41k. Meanwhile the lowest seller on Chrono24 is asking ~$85k and most over $100k. Hodinkee shop wants $108.5k.

I was idly thinking about bidding on it because I might like to have a 14802 one day and it feels like a "great deal." However, buying something I probably wasn't itching to buy just because it's cheaper than it was before isn't really saving money... :-)

Yikes. Yeah you can try again here too: https://www.sothebys.com/buy/908ee15...c-546c28feb0a0

Prices slump by up to 50% for discontinued Rolex watches (Watchpro)

Not sure but there’s a bnib right now for 84.5k dollars. Few days ago they were 86 but not sold.

At least ask before assuming. Part of the above deal was that the dealer agreed to buy back at that price within 6 months if I decided to do so.

I got a call from the AD that a Daytona Pikachu was there for me so I flipped the JM back to the dealer and bought that.

I still want to get the JM but nobody is offering the buy back deal anymore :)

I can only see the trend going one way which is downwards…. If you want the JM Daytona I suggest waiting until end of the year to see how it goes. Unless you have too much money itching to be spent, buying from grey dealers is perhaps not the wisest of choice as they are just scalping innocent collectors.

All the talks of prices going up have failed to materialise since the start of the war. A lot of new grey dealers have gone bust as well. The feel good factor for watch investment is more or less over, except for a few self serving idiots who have a vested interest in maintaining the present cascade because they are a dealer themselves or they have taken a massive beating buying at the peak…. Good riddance to scalpers!

The result for the 14802 likely reflects (1) its poor condition, (2) its relative obscurity compared to 5402 and 15202, and (3) RO Jumbos having dropped more than most since peak hype (which happened to coincide with the 50th RO anniversary fuss).
AP and VC for that matter are clearly very weak right now. I might add so is Lange when you can get platinum Lange Big Dates in the low 20s. A 5402 sold on loupethis for low 50s. The 14802 while rare has a less desirable dial configuration. I think real prices right now are:

14802 40-55k depending on condition
15202 50-65k ? depending on 1st gen or 40th
5402 50-75k ? depending on series and condition

Yes, I agree about the less desirable dial configuration.

On the wrist it looks like a 5402 with the less-preferred AP @ 12 dial. That's not a bad look but most people would pay more for a 15202 or earlier 5402 dial. The only reason it should stay higher priced is if there is enough vintage collector demand specific to the 14802 to drive the price up given that they only made 1000 of them.

The 1st gen 15202 white dial is selling in the 40s on Moda.

This!

Glad to see more people are able to buy msrp from rolex AD, than the scalpers or grey market. No reasons to pay more than msrp.

And yet people still dont believe that ad doing backdoor selling
Proof?
Heres a pic from ad and look at the warranty card not even dated yet and heres a guy selling it already while at the ad. Best part is that ad sold 2 watches from same person at the same time.

It was simply showing the photo of the watch. Would you like a specific one?

Not sure where the confusion was either but anyway.. As you were.

Apologies I should have been clear that I was speaking to blue dials only. Let's be real, if you're looking to jump into your 1st Jumbo, you gotta go blue!!!

I think people are happy to recoup their outlay and they can sell under rrp because when they brought it was pre multiple price increases

So now we have

Batman
Batgirl
Kermit
Cermit
Cookie Monster
Smurf
Starbucks
Pikachu

This brand, seriously; I become more intrigued that I moved away from Rolex with every day. The only piece I’m still waiting for is the SkyD, because the tech is simply amazing. Other than that, Rolex is experiencing death by instagram
