I can't sleep without my wife's elbow in my back. I absolutely hate sleeping alone. I have a hard time falling asleep if I can't hear her sleeping.

FWIW my son never slept with us. When he was little I would read to him in his bed and often fall asleep. If he had trouble at night he would yell "DADDY! Need you." (still does) and I would come running. If he was sick or nightmarish or whatever he could come into bed with us but for regular sleeping I would just tell him a story, lie with him for a few minutes and just let him go to sleep. He was fine. Up until recently I still tucked him in every night. If

Bill, that makes perfect sense. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. June only slept with me for a short while, then she wanted her own bed and only rarely climbs in with me. This was the same baby that would toddle off to bed and put herself down for a nap when she was barely big enough to walk... Kids do what they need to do, and it's a smart parent who can recognize this. Of course this means you, Super Dad!

Bill, you remind me so much of my sons. They too are fantastic dads. Your son is a very lucky boy.

Another thing we did with are son was when he went to bed we didn't lower the volume of the TV or are conversation. He learned to sleep through interruptions!!!

True story that I think is funny though you all may not.
When my wife was pregnant we attended a childbirth class. There were about 6 or 7 other couples and a couple of nurses telling us what to expect etc. They showed us how to hold a baby and made us change diapers on dolls.
At about noon the nurse told us we would watch a video and then break for lunch. She proceeded to show us the child birth video of a woman who looked like a horse and had really bad teeth She was sweating and moaning and then we saw the close up shots of her in labor. I started giggling and my wife was giving me the "WTF" look. All I could think was:
"Who's ready for lunch?"

Ohhh, my one daughter-in-law nearly drove my son crazy with "whispering", turning down the TV so low no one could hear it, not wanting people over after the baby's bedtime because they might talk too loud, turning the ringer volume on the phone so low the calls were frequently missed. Ack!!! Not her fault....she is her mother's daughter. She's MUCH better now though.

Nancy, that's good that she is better. This kind of behavior will make everyone go crazy, including the child. As has already been said, children are adaptable and will take things in stride. It's parents that make them neurotic!!!

That's smart, Leo. And good "conditioning" for when the second and third kid comes along - because then it will never be quiet for baby's naptime!

Lisa, I agree, as a parent you learn with each new child that comes along. And you become more laid back and tolerant as time moves on. I grew up as the middle son in the family. My parents were strict with my older brother and me. And when my younger brother came a long, he got away with murder!!!
You know children do not come with instructions or manuals!!!

Nice. Hope she sees some jail time, and her supportive family can homeschool the kid.

Make that TWO couples!

It's times like this when I'm glad my wife isn't on TRF - she might get some crazy ideas here in the coffeeshop!

You know, we didn't! Instead we went to some plant nurseries to look at trees with red foliage to replace an ornamental red plum the ice storm killed. While at Target to get a watering can, we picked up a cheap inflatable pool, so the girls played with the garden hose and in the pool all afternoon. It was almost warm enough - they got a little shivery but had fun anyway.

I'm betting that they had a blast! Kind of cold. though - but kids don't seem to care. My two keep insisting it's time to go in the pool, despite the water being around 45 degrees!

I get the spare room for three reasons...

1. William now has my place.

2. I snore...loudly...When I stayed with my sisted in teh Canarian mountains...her husband got up in the night to shoot the Mountain Lion which was roaring outside.

3. Whenever I am in bed with claire I can't help but give her the odd squeeze...if that isn't bad enough, I also make a loud HONK noise when I do it!!!!!!!!

I guess the spare room keeps our marriage going...
