I come here for love....!

Lion, the landscape guy gave me the plan yesterday. I'm pretty happy with his ideas, though he wants to do 48 flats of dwarf mondo grass for groundcover. Not sure I want grass for groundcover - and if I ever decided to remove it - oy! So we'll probably nix that. I have no problems with mulch showing. It highlights the plants just fine. No need to cover every inch with plantings, ya know? Not to mention the cost of only the grass and its installation was $1,700. Yikes. Plus, if I ever wanted to add some kind of groundcover later it should be easy to do.

More details later - I'm still trying to research the plants he recommends that I'm not too familiar with.

Missing everyone the past couple of days. Had to go out of town, and just got back a couple of minutes ago. Wanted to get a post up, to let you know I'm still alive, and haven't forgotten my new friends.

TGIF, well almost anyway. Talk about landscaping. Figured, since everything I planted died, artificial was the way to go. My neighbor actually watered my fake plants, when we were out of town, and was shocked when I told her they were fake. She still teases me about it.

Ashley, hope I didn't scare you about having kids. I wouldn't trade any of them, or my five grandchildren. You really appreciate them when you're an old lady, like myself. It's so sad when I meet people that have absolutely no one, because their immediate family has passed on.

Catch you later, sleep tight, don't let the bedbugs bite.

Seriously...it IS tough doing five! There are people you just just naturally gravitate to, more because of instinctive personality things, but then there are others who just make you smile more for various reasons. Yup...Ten is good.....but you'd be surprised even then how tough it is!

It drives me crazy. Thank goodness he was a really nice guy, or I would have hit him over the head with my rolling pin.

I asked a lot of technical questions.............and shamelessly used as many "big" words as I could! Al just sat there smiling 'cause he knew exactly what was going on, and at least the guy was gracious enough to look directly at ME when he responded to them.

Been wondering where you were! Welcome back!! I am gardening obsessed. Last fall I planted 400 spring bulbs. First time I've done that. I was thrilled to see the first Early Spring Snow Drops blooming, and almost cried last night when it started snowing.

You are right about the grandchildren. I love mine to death and treasure every moment I have with them. There's another on the way. We're not going to know if it's a boy or a girl until the little one arrives. It's SOOOO exciting!!

In my line of work the attitude really irks me.

I once yelled at a junior for calling a client and asking if "your husband is there, as it will be a technical conversation."

The bouquet and apology card came out of his wages!

We use lots of mulch. We've used the red cedar mulch for years, but this year for the first time, we're switching to black. Time for a change. Our neighbour always uses black and her place looks awesome. She's won lots of awards!!

Lisa, I would definitely not do the mondo grass and if you do decide later you could do the transplanting yourself. It's not hard to do(transplanting groundcover) and you might as well save the money. Also unless the shrubs and trees are large you can do the planting yourself on them as well. When you want, I will explain the do's and don'ts of how to tranplant to you!!!
Also if memory serves me correctly you and hubby plan on adding to your landscaping slowly over the next few years. So you will do things in stages and have time to really think about what you plan on doing next. BTW, if your beds are quite large you can have mulch delivered by the truck load. It is sold by the cubic yard and will save you a lot of money over buying bags of mulch!!!

Nancy, as a suggestion use shredded cypress mulch. It's plain looking but doesn't attract a lot of attention away from your plants. Your plants and flowers should be the center of attraction in a garden!!!
Also when using mulch you want it to be 3"-6" thick but do not go less than 3". Mulching is done to hold weeds down, insulate the plants roots from heat and hold moisture in the soil. Then every year I add a little more mulch to keep the layer at minimum of 3"-4". The reason for shredded mulch is in a heavy rain it will not wash away, it stays put especially if you have raised beds!!!
What zone do you live in???

Nancy, bulbs are wonderful and can really bring joy in late winter or early spring. I love seeing the snow drops come up as they are the first sign of spring. And yes, even through the snow they will pop up and bring excitement!!!
What other types of bulbs did you plant???

Yep....we've been buying our mulch by the truckload for years and always layer it very thickly. We won't be needing as much this year as the perennials are pretty much taking all the space now. We divide them every year and share them with neighbours and friends.

We're in Southern Ontario...Zone 6B. These shots were taken in late August and in October of last year.

I planted Tricolor Snow Crocus, regular crocus, Glory of the Snow - Forbesii, Grape Hyacinth, Narcissi, Allium (both the smaller and the giant ones) and Muscari. We already had daffodils, and in the backyard, tulips although we have been trying to get rid of them for years....Al hates them!

I'm having a bad day today.

I have a rotten headache and my right eye looks as if it has imploded.

One of my blood vessels has gone and turned the sclera crimson.

I had to meet a client today and frightened the life out of him.

Not good...I wish I was on a beach somewhere with a cold mojito!!!!!
