Can anyone identify this old bottle of whisky or tell me what it may be worth? Cap foil says Spring 1917. Hate to open it! Sorry for the horizontal format!

Can’t make out the label but looks in good condition for a pre-prohibition bottle. Would be interested in seeing better pictures as I find these old bottles quite interesting.

It’s an original J.&J.M. Saffell Distillers - Cedar Run Distillery Bourbon Whiskey from KY. Not sure about the value but it’s a nice find!

Anyone use whisky stones? I got a set for Xmas, do they work at keeping the whisky cool with the no water leakage from ice cubes?

I'm not sure if this is the same thing but my wife got me these metal looking cubes in the shapes of ice cubes. You freeze them and put them in your drink. They do keep the drink cold and obviously do not add water to the whisky, but it still seems a little odd to me to use them. Just feels weird - hard to explain

... found a pick of what they look like

The Whisky Thread

Picked this up today... Found a little wine and sprits shop with a tasting license. Took a taste and liked it. Quite good for only $43 a bottle!

Nice!!
I've seen a few of these bottles around at local liquor stores, but at €400+ a bottle that was a nope for me. I'm not comfortable with spending that dough on a bottle of whisky yet.

good pass on that one, secondary for a 2018 M20 is only $2,000 so they wanted double secondary which is ridiculous.

I don't blame you Bas, this whiskey collecting can get out of hand if you let it!!

I love how you think the two are mutually exclusive.

If you want a M20 I have one.

I'm always looking for PVW 20 and 23s.

It sure can, but it is fun to try and hunt something for a good price

Had a dram of Benromach last night, I got this bottle from my uncle and I'm quite impressed with this Scotch. A nice balance going on with some light smokiness.

I’m the basic Islay guy.
Any Ardbeg is preferred, but I also own quite a few sq ft of the lands of Laphroaig distillery

I 'own' a few sq ft as well
Anyone here ever went and 'claim' their bit of land at the distillery? You'll get to plant a little flag and all

I just turned 35 and am looking for something good barreled in 1984. Any ideas where I could look? I'm definitely a bourbon/American whiskey guy, which presents a few problems in that bourbon was not very popular in the mid-80s... I've got a decent collection but am looking for something "special".

Open to suggestions...

Easy Peasy! Dig deep and get a Pappy Van Winkle 23 year from the 2007 release. You’re in luck that Buffalo Trace started putting codes on PVW bottles from 2007 onwards, which represent the bottling line, date and time the bottle was filled. Caveat emptor........fakes and refilled bottles are unfortunately out there.

Yeah, It had crossed my mind, but I'm too worried about fakes on this one. Plus, I'm not sure I'm down with overspending for a PVW markup. I get that something that old isn't going to be cheap, but that's insane to me.
