At the moment, UPS is still in the process of their investigation and I've been informed by a representative that it is taking longer than expected due to the high value of the item. Unfortunately, that means that at this point I am still out the value of the watch but I am actively reaching out to UPS waiting for updates.

As soon as I hear anything I'll be sure to update this thread, but at the moment, I'm still waiting on UPS to make a decision. Thank you all for keeping up with this situation, and I'll be sure to keep you all updated.
I have a feeling they are taking longer as they are trying everything to squirm out of paying...Typical “Insurance”.

UCC Article 2 risk of loss rules should provide guidance on who takes the loss should the goods not make it to their intended recipient. Seller chose the method of shipping and in most cases takes the risk should goods be lost or damaged in transit before the buyer receives them. The question is a matter of proof. Lots of pontificating without any understanding of the legal rules underlying commercial transactions.

I expect its normal to take at least a few weeks until there is new news from an investigation like this.

Sounds like UPS is going to wriggle out of it. Sorry.

Wait just a minute. I have the deed to this bridge, I bought it a couple of years ago from a very nice Nigerian lottery winner.

You have the special warranty deed. There was a lien on the bridge and now the general warranty deed is available. You will need to pony up another million to get the proper deed.

no way! I know this nigerian prince (we've been emailing for bit, so I trust him) he could help me buy this bridge, all I have to do is help him claim his inheritance!

I will never use UPS stores for high value shipments...

I know there are good one's & bad one's but I made up my mind yrs ago only to drop off at Fedex hub's even if it's a great inconvenience. It seems like a recurring theme that things go missing while in the possession of UPS stores.
I know the Fedex stores have had there issues as well. In my experience Fedex runs a tighter ship, though I don't use the franchise drop off locations for any carrier, authorized sorting facilities only for my drop offs.

I hope this situation has a favorable outcome.

This right here is the best course of action... I do the same except I wait until an hour or less before cut off... the least amount of time they have it sitting around, the better... shipping priority overnight usually means the package is in FedEx's possession for less than 20 hours... dropping off with one of their authorized ship centers is the same as the UPS store... always go for an actual FedEx ship center... if there aren't trucks outside, keep moving along...

I am currently dealing with a lost USPS registered mail shipment (incoming) so no one is infallible no matter how many checks... to be honest, I've always felt registered mail was a bad option because of the amount of time it can take and the limit information everyone gets... at the end of the day, they just shrug it off anyway... but FedEx has always been my preferred shipper... hopefully the buyer and seller are both reimbursed but this should definitely serve as a lesson to one-off sellers...

I have the luxury of being close to Parcel Pro's NYC office...

Everything I ship, I do so under a camera. It is a small office, usually empty of customers, and cameras everywhere. I unpack the watch, hold it up to the camera, snap a photo of the serial number under the camera while doing so (which is obviously timestamped on my phone), then package, drop, and collect my drop off receipt.

Also, one thing most people don't realize, but should do, is open the package while the driver is still present right after signing. If the box is empty, there is no disputing it.

Regardless, from the sales side of the equation, I feel I cover my bases as well as could be.

Hoping for a positive outcome for the OP.

ETA: You should not do this in a regular UPS/FedEx location for obvious reasons.

since this thread i had thought of this myself. yes, ask to open in front of them. i can see them refusing (as they are always in a hurry) and making up some reason. has anyone done this?

If you read the fine print in Parcel Pro, this is actually something they say needs to be done. Most people rarely do it though. Worst case, I'd say to have a camera set up of when you receive and open on the spot with the driver running off, something that can't be disputed - all has to be caught in a clear line of sight, otherwise slight of hand or something would be brought into question... Insurance companies aren't racing around with checkbooks in hand.

The only thing I'm skeptical of is allowing a random driver to know I have at least one expensive watch in the house.

I stumbled on this thread today and thought for sure by the time I got through 16 pages there would be an answer to the mystery at the end.
Looks like I'll have to check back in.

What a mess ... Very sad...

I have only a few doubts about it, maybe a little stupid:

Is the seller still contacting you? He dosen't login on since july 3.

Is the serial number on the card the same as it was on the watch? The box and card are the same of the sale topic photos or of some pic that the seller have sent to you during the negociation?

I hope all this is resolved in the best way possible.

Good grief...I’m sure the OP would update us if there had been a resolution.

UPS and the value of an item doesn’t delay an investigation. The facts of the case (as it relates to UPS actions) are usually determined inside of a week.

But when there are extenuating circumstances, or if an insurance fraud is suspected, UPS has to involve law enforcement. So the seller may be the cause of a delay if s/he isn’t cooperating or if a criminal case is being built.
