Lovely. I’ve been looking at the newer model rhodium dial 126622 do you think it would be a safe piece at retail to buy and not lose money on?

You won’t make much as they go for a little bit above retail on the grey market, but you definitely won’t lose any money should you decide to sell it. But honestly, once you’ll start wearing it (especially outdoors) I doubt you’ll ever want to sell it! At least I know I couldn’t ;)

For me the Rolex world stopped at 5-digit, so I don’t know. What I know is that with 5-digits, you can wear your Rolex for free. If you don’t want it anymore, you will get at least your money back when you sell it.

If you're mainly interested in making money I'd suggest a less accessible watch. If you want to wear a great looking watch that fits like no other current Rolex then this is a great watch!!!

I think people will realize soon enough that it is a sleeper hit, and will drive the prices up. You probably won’t want to sell though. I know I don’t.

At this watch's price point, you're already excluding a large group of potential buyers anyway.

Can you elaborate? Wouldn't a potential buyer be someone who can afford the product? If someone makes 30K a year they are not a potential Ferrari buyer hence they are not the brands target audience

A lot more people stretch their finances for a hot model with an MSRP that's <$10k than a less desirable (market wise**) model that is pushing $13k after taxes.

Maybe I'm completely wrong but that has been my observation.

This is probably true. I think a lot of people will stretch their finances to get into the Rolex game knowing they are sitting 5-10k net positive on the transaction (aka sub, gmt, Daytona) but that also gives more credence to the above post that people who actually WANT the YM will buy it since there is no massive upside.

1992.

While the Original Release was 1992, there are case serial numbers dating production to 1991.

The OLDEST YM serial number I've found on the internet is an X# while mine is an N#. Both of these date from 1991.

The funniest part about the YM, is that for the first few years (1992-1996) they shared the same midcase with the 16618.

Only after that did the lugs shorten and become more Daytona like and less submariner like.

All of the 16628's from 1991-1996 have Lug Holes and Submariner Mid-cases with polished lugs vs. brushed. I've found ZERO literature that confirms at any time were 16628's sold with BRUSHED lugs.

The very few cases of original 16628's with Brushed lugs could be a result of one of two things (in my opinion).

1. Re-finished / touched up early by RSC who hadn't been trained in the new watch yet, so finished it the same way as the 16618.

2. It's POSSIBLE that some 16618 midcases were used to build 16628's if the demand were high and the cases were already prepped and ready. It's possible some made it out with the wrong finished lugs.

But anyway, I digress.
