100% agree!

I fear for the future of the restaurant business, I'm never going to be the level of customer I once was, I have saved so much money, I have become such a good cook and I've been able to buy so much wine usually allocated for only restaurants I think I'm going to be a home body for quite a while even after a vaccine is available...

We’ve always cooked and have a cellar at home, so eating out has always been hit and miss for us. If service or quality is off or the description doesn’t match what’s plated (happens too often), it can be quite disappointing.

We have saved a lot of cash not eating out as much and thankfully missed out on some inevitable bad experiences too. We tend to bring our wine out to dinners and pay the corking fee when possible But Cooking at home is definitely our go to!

Not Yet... I'm kinda wondering how things are going to pan out in December. Watching and might have to move it to spring if the Covid is spiking. I did pick up a few bottles of Paso wine yesterday to drink before our trip!

I hear you! Great way to explore the region from home ;)

Pick up some Austin Hope to enjoy at home and if you enjoy, you can visit when you're up in Paso. Their cab can be found at Total Wine (have seen it at Costco too). Their other labels (eg. quest etc) are pretty good as well

You gotta pay the corkage, the prices are triple at some places here in Dago! Plus you may run into 'Drama at some restaurants, especially in Little Italy and Gaslamp!!!!

I wish we had a corkage fee law on the books here. Sadly, that is one thing CO is lacking.

Personally I've never been a foodie and going out to dinner for me was ALWAYS about the company and ambience. The food is a distant second or third.

My wife is an incredible cook AND she travels the world on a weekly/monthly basis (before Covid) eating in very good places so she really has no desire to eat out when she comes home.

My favorite restaurant is Auberge du Soleil in Rutherford (NAPA) and that's always a semi yearly treat. The rest of the time is mostly at home even though we have incredible restaurants in hole in the wall towns here, due to proximity to SF/wine culture/Culinary Institute being major players here.

I travel to your neck of the woods fairly often and am a HUGE Auberge du Soleil fan... such a beautiful spot and surrounding grounds. I've stayed at the adjoining resort as well and the concierge was kind enough to also get us into the French Laundry when we had no reservation so I'm a big fan of their service, attitude and superior sense of hospitality.

Their restaurant is top notch as well and to this day I've experienced the single most epic brunch of my life there. A lot of that had to do with the bottles that were popped but also the stunning views and again the food and service, so I get why you feel the way you do about that gem of a restaurant in an ideal location.

Agreed, for ambience(view) it's high high up there literally and figuratively, but we did think the food was just ok at least when we went a few years back.

Food is subjective, restaurants have bad days even though consistency is the goal. While I've enjoyed my time there I would never equate any meal I've had there as the best ever, I've never truly been disappointed either. Check out their brunch for sure!!

Another excellent New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc.
I don't normally drink this variety as I find most white wine is way to acidic for me these days. I have a low tolerance for acid. I generally drink Chardonnays, preferably fruity, woody and oily with a couple of years of development on them.
This, like most Sav Blancs has a fabulous nose. I could sniff this all afternoon. On the palate it is fruit-driven and intense and the citrus flavours complex.
It skates in just below my max for acidity and is very fresh and clean speaking of the pristine waters that feed the vineyard.
I bought this "on special" for A$10. / bottle which makes it good value for a Sav Blanc of this quality.

And by the time it hits the shelves in the UK we can have it for the low low price of £100

That's interesting, James. I wouldn't have known that there was a big 'mark-up' on NZ wine in the UK.
I don't buy much European or US wine, purely because we have a wine industry to support here and a constant trade imbalance. The current 'punishment' by the PRC for calling them out on a range of issues isn't helping.
I love NZ Marlborough wine and down here we pretty much regard the Kiwis as 'family' so I don't feel too disloyal.

To be fair, NZ isn’t too bad. I was being facetious.

I love visiting wineries outside of Adelaide when over visiting family. You have so many.

Now they have a MASSIVE markup in UK!!
