It's true, that currently DRS's primary usage is not to help to overtake, but to reduce the distance between cars more quickly. However, if there was no DRS, overtaking on a non-oval race track between cars with almost the same top speed would be almost impossible. So if I look at DRS in this way, I see that the slower driver mostly has no chance not only to permanently regain his position, but not even to be able to follow the faster car with the help of DRS.

So the DRS will add a little help for a faster driver. Therefore a DRS is good in a one against another one action, but not good at all, if several cars uses this system in the same time as these case a slow car can hold up a faster car IF the faster car is not right behind him.

So I’m not an avid fan of F1. I peep into races here or there and hit the St Pete GP when I can.

That being said.

Shouldn’t racing be about the better driver and car and not give anyone any advantages over the other? I thought F1 was built off teams making better cars that still met specs for the class. I also thought they used drivers with excellent skills, drive, (for lack of a better word) cojones and abilities. Then it was may the victor get the spoils.

Wtf happened that now there is these things that slow cars down and the like? Am I not understanding this correctly?

I think your question is apt whether it be F1 or another series. It is a car/driver combination. But there are separate constituencies.

The fairness is all cars have the same allowances - whether it is DRS, PTP, FanBoost, SIR, etc.

All teams have same rules or restrictions.

The winners compete on levels beyond those precepts, though. The “Unfair Advantage” principle runs stronger where the rules aren’t admin’d closely. This is why some series have an abundance of tech investment.

On DRS itself, it was envisioned to make a difference in passing throughout the field. What we see on TV almost over-focuses on the lead group. I can assure you there are dozens of races within the field we don’t see. The aero, strat. decisions, suspension, wing, testing, physio, strengths/weaknesses and other choices that (when all combined) make a car/driver dominant.

I respectfully suggest, that there is more excitement in these 10 minutes, than the last few F1 races combined!

Goodwood Revival Meeting.

There are LOTS of truly great live / on-demand auto racing to enjoy globally, especially with various apps, 'channels', etc now easily accessible for streaming. Enjoy F1 for the entertainment spectacular it offers, for hardcore racing enthusiasts there are many choices.

Steve is right of course, there's Goodwood too :)

Also, check out the event schedule at your local track(s). Please support these tracks and local drivers / teams.

PS: Don't forget about karting :)

+2. Solid rear axles, no traction control, no abs, no LSD, no power steering. Racing at its purest form.

I also enjoy MotoGP as a professional series.

Lol, I think you know what I consider racing since you saw me karting. Actually looking at an electric kart just to play around with.

Ah yes Goat, have indeed seen you karting and damn you're impressive!

You and many of my friends karting together... that's how we roll

PS: For those unfamiliar, I took Goat and a bunch of friends to party and have fun at a Formula Karting place. Everyone left with big smiles. We should do a TRF gtg there!

I’d agree if we replace impressive with aggressive. Lol.

Definitely was fun. TRF gtg there again would be fun.

Yes it is, but very rewarding. In the early 2000’s I was racing a 125 Rotax while my kid was in the 50 Kid kart. There were no gear changes allowed in 50cc 2 stroke so I could manage to service both between heats and races. Once the move up from 50 to 80 and 100, I decided to sell my Rotax and concentrate on the kids racing.

One more thing about karting, unless in a shifter kart, if racing a single gear kart, you have to master taking corners at the highest speed possible without lasing control. There isn’t the luxury of downshifting into a corner and powering out with upshifts… one must be as smooth and fast and possible managing slip angle, tire heat and wear. It definitely translates to racing cars and is a huge advantage against those that have never raced direct drive karts.

Agree.

Unfortunately direct drive is somewhat a thing of the past unless in Europe. However OK-N is starting to make an appearance in the US Karting scene.

Beginning next weekend, we have an opportunity to see up-and-comers in the F2 & F3 support series for the F1 race.

Imola F2- https://www.fiaformula2.com/Results?raceid=1054
&F3- https://www.fiaformula3.com/Results?raceid=1041

Monaco F2- https://www.fiaformula2.com/Results?raceid=1055
&F3- https://www.fiaformula3.com/Results?raceid=1042

Barcelona F2- https://www.fiaformula2.com/Results?raceid=1056
&F3- https://www.fiaformula3.com/Results?raceid=1043

Some members dislike DRS and F1 “funniness’s” - I recommend F3 - no DRS spec cars and these are drivers hot to impress academies to put them on the path to F1. True raw driver skill. They are shooting to get an F2 seat.

F2 does have DRS but no team orders. These drivers want a shot on an F1 team and strive to achieve a championship to prove their mettle.

If you want to see the first step out of karting, I recommend an event in your country called F4. See it live to appreciate it.

These are youngsters just out of their karting experience. Go see it in person to soak in the original “drive to survive” (sans Netflix ego-hype). You’ll see families and friends supporting young teens who aspire to a career in motorsports. Maybe won’t make F1 but there are other options in so many different series around the world.

Just some noodling on an off-weekend to whet your appetites.

Said to my wife F1 would never run in those conditions. Miata and SCCA does run in some 'dicey' conditions, hardcore racing those Miata drivers.

Now it looks like the main event at 3pm is being 'bumped' for American FAUXball sports. They'd never bump F1 entertainment....

IMSA Race was only pushed back a few minutes due to OT in the game.

IMSA made the choice to run the MX-5 Cup race in those conditions. SCCA was only providing marshals.

It's good to see there's a bit more safety for the camera crew nowadays than when Tony Marsh was driving.

About a quarter way through the season and some interesting race results when comparing teammates, most notably Sainz/Leclerc.

Teams told to evacuate Imola and not to return tomorrow.

Decisions pending but more rain tomorrow could nix the weekend.
