Nice one, James. Looks like a fun day with great weather. Can't ask for more. But uh... where's the wrist watch check?

Thanks! Did you have a special pit/paddock pass or media pass?

I used to attend a lot of Indy Car races in the 1990s. Always got paddock passes. This is my favorite photo of one of my favorite drivers. (Emerson Fittipaldi for the younger TRFers)

Formula 1 was far more interesting when we had the politics from the 90's to mid 2000's. There is no controversy or drama now, even when Schumacher was dominating we still had the whole Button/Frank Williams mayhem, colorful characters like Montoya. Spygate and crashgate were absolutely thrilling, Schumacher's antics and the allegedly cheating Benetton were fascinating.
Now we have nothing, no scandals, no contract drama, no paddock politics, nothing. The most interesting talking points are Lewis Hamilton's tattoos and instagram posts. In the past even when the racing was uncompetitive we still had other reasons to watch, not any more. |

Ferrari...smh. What a disaster!
I’m a Mercedes fan but even I think the total domination of the sport this year is too much. RB Honda and Ferrari really need to figure out the aero rules. If not we may see the greatest season in history regardless of sport. |

Yeah I don’t know wtf they were thinking not sending out Leclerc. They scapegoated Arrivebene last year and this is the disaster they put together to replace him? Only thing keeping it interesting is the midfield and we’re lucky if the TV director gives us 1/10 of the battles they have. Instead they’d rather show us a Ferrari or RB lapping in no mans land. |

The problem with Ferrari goes like this. They have Italians running the team, they are stubborn, pigheaded and don’t always work well together. There is a constant tug of war within the top ranks. I am Italian, but I would like to think more North Americanized if you know what I mean. It is a matter of pride that gets them in all sorts of dumb ass decisions as today.
Just think, when Michael Schumacher was winning all the championships with Ferrari, they had Ross Brawn, Jean Todt, Rory Byrne and the Japanese fellow whose name escapes me. They win from 1999-2006. All of whom are not Italian and worked very well together. This is an observation from myself and many of my fellow Italians friends who follow F1. In fact, when in Italy as last summer, this was brought up more than once with my family members, friends etc who all agree. They need to get rid of these clowns running the team and completely clean house as they will ruin a possible generational driver in Leclerc. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Ferrari over the past few years especially with Kimi seem to forget they have 2 cars. They seem tunnel vision focused on Seb that they often have a sub optimal strategy for the number 2 driver. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Zakalwe is correct! I'm a British F1 fan but have been a life long Ferrari supporter (never actually supported a british driver). I was in Maranello about 3 weeks ago, Ferrari is very much a "national" team in Italy.

It's the national team without a doubt. During race days, the streets are dead and if you listen closely, you can hear living rooms with the race on. It's the countries team.

Another sad Monaco GP that’s more about tire management than racing.
When the strategy is all about trying to push just hard enough for the leader to damage his tires more than you and praying for a rain cloud it’s time to look for another track. The Monaco GP has been on my bucket list for 20 years, but I think I’d be better off going to 2 races somewhere else instead.

There will be a lot of chatter about the stewards’ decision, but until his trip onto the grass the race was easily within Vettel’s control and his car was too fast down the straight for Hamilton to be a genuine threat. Ultimately he has lost yet another race because of a critical mistake made under pressure.

Why is no one discussing the rule where you must not shorten the lap by short-cutting a turn. He never had two tires on track at turn apex.
