Lisa, it is supposed to last about 3 weeks. By fermenting longer, it should have more (and more active) bacteria, as there is less lactose. However, I am not a microbiologist, so take that for what it's worth.

Is that garage issue in the traditional sense or garage issue in the Joe sense?

Hi, everybody. I took the girls out for a walk this evening and brought the camera so I could spot nice looking landscaping for Caroline. It ended up being kind of a tudor revival tour - most of the houses in the neighborhhood are either tudor or Colonial in style...

Later tonight I'll post them, if anyone's interested.

We are watching Star Wars with the kiddos for the first time. Funny how it looks quite different 30 years later.

You know, I would LOVE to see that movie again. I haven't seen it since the first release in .... was it 1976 or so? I would have been about 13. What a groundbreaker that film was. My brother had the Darth Vader full-head mask - I think he bought it at the theatre?

I hadn't seen it since it came out. It's definitely better in the theatre (with those huge things (what do you call them) flying overhead. It does look a little dated to my 41 year old self! Still a classic, though. I remember that year, every girl wanted to be Princess Leia for Halloween.

Max, however, almost cried himself to sleep because Daddy made the kids go to bed at 9. We promised that he could finish watching tomorrow.

Carol, be careful you are dating yourself!!!

Have you looked at any more landscape plants for your yard? Some that are more indigenous to your climate? I can always check with my sister in law because she has lived in Georgia and now lives in Little Rock!!!

here comes a bunch of pics, ya'll - for Caroline, Jim, Nancy, Leo and anyone else interested in architecture or landscaping..... I didn't get all the way to the one street that has a couple of enormous houses, but I'd like to try and get those at some point.... everything here was built between 1932 and 1940.

Jim - I thought you might enjoy a mini-tour of how the 1930s Tudor Revival style was interpreted in Oklahoma...

I liked this plant - is it a juniper of some sort?

Caroline, since you like symmetry, here ya go:

I LOVE this place especially. But it's not Tudor Revival. Maybe Norman? Jim, do you know?

I liked this place because the half-timbering has such great contrast.

This place was at some point added on to so that the garage connected to the main house.

Here's the side view.

Probably my fave house in the neighborhood. The dragon chimney pot is probably not old, but it's neat!

20 years ago Dave and I considered this for our very first house when it was for sale, but we couldn't afford it.

There are even a couple of Moderne homes around. The garage apt. on this one is as cool as any house!

Note the mismatched chimney pots...

June wanted to be in every picture.

Would you UK guys call this kind of a Cotswold style?

Maybe sorta Frank Lloyd Wright here?

Don't know what style this is. Georgian?

Back on our street, the houses get smaller but still interesting design...

Another nice, symmetrical design for the house and plants:

This place is a tiny 2 bedroom cottage, but the details are amazing!

Whew! This concludes the Crown Heights neighborhood architecture and landscape tour. Caroline, hope this might offer a little inspiration to the kind of look you're after with your landscape. It was fun to really slow down and look at the yards and homes around us - some of these places I'd never really noticed before.

Lisa, I LOVED looking at those pics! What a nice way to enjoy my morning coffee!! Everything around here is still so bleak, dreary, dirty and frosty looking. That was SO refreshing. Mind you, I have to admit that I enjoyed looking at June more than the houses. What a little ham she is!

I saw that a while back as well. You're so right. It's amazing how different it looked.....still remarkable special effects for its time, but now some things seem almost corny!

Lisa, the plant you asked a question on is a Juniper. Your daughter, June, is very beautiful and definitely a keeper!!!
