The Official Formula One Thread!

AMG MB upgrades are on the car. Albert Fabrega has shared multiple photos to Twitter. Credit: https://twitter.com/AlbertFabrega?re...0%2Fframe.html

Alas, the better flow coupled with a low drag wing package in the wet will be more than a driver might manage without losing the rear end especially in Eau Rouge or on Kemmel straight.

Also drivers are raising thoughts of cancellation if rain is so hard as to surmount visibility…

They changed the race schedule for Spa from after the summer break to before the break in hopes of holding it a month sooner and avoiding very inclement weather. I sure hope they can get it done as this is also a Sprint qualifying and Sprint race weekend.

Throw back Thursday photo on this day in 1997.

“After a solid race starting in second place and fighting for victory, a puncture destroyed everything that was done. Michael gave me a ride to honor my unlucky race”.

Giancarlo Fisichella remembered the ride that Michael Schumacher gave him on this day in 1997, at the end of the German GP on the track of Hockenheim.

Perhaps I’m feeling a little Nostalgic with the photos but the old Hockenheim circuit with the long blast through the forest was a very unique track. Today they use, for the most part, the stadium section of Hockenheim and not the long blasts through the trees. It’s been 20 years since they’ve raced through the forest and the forest has reclaimed the long straights back again…

What?
Riding the prancing horse?

It got him a contract with Enzo later!

Look it up!

Well, not exactly - but after Renault & Force India & departing F1 - he won Le Mans for them.

We met Giancarlo at the Long Beach GP a few years back when he drove the saloon cars for Ferrari. Also met the great David Hobbs on the same race weekend!

Had Hobbs in the Tower for a weekend earlier this year and he’s got more stories than a weekend will hold!

You just don’t meet many gentlemen like that anymore.

Standard room at cosmo that week. Wynn is sold out and theirs were even higher. I was just there for 3 days and I just can’t see how anyone is going to be able to get around the city with this event there. Unless you are staying somewhere like Wynn, it’s going to be a mess.

Damn it feels good to be a gangster. Makes Wallet Disneyworld seem tame by comparison.

I assume at the Cosmo you can be outside on your balcony. I'd ask just to be sure.

Many variables in ticket prices. The cheapest are more often SRO - meaning you traipse in carrying everything to sit, eat, hydrate, relieve yourself, take cover, view. Sort of like camping, but you get to do it every day.

However, at some events there are 4 series racing - more value per $.

Average pricing includes Grandstand and other options. Gives you a different perspective.

But I agree that Grand Prix is expensive

Nice. Funnily enough I was just looking this up on the F1 ticket site the other day.

I typically don’t like ridiculous spectacle they tend to make out of the US GPs anyways. Feels like trip to the cheapest 3 could be cool as after hotel and all you’ve probably saved enough to just about cover a decent portion of airfare.

I can highly recommend Austria! It is somewhat organized or at least heavily supported by Red Bull, incl. spectacular airshows etc. It's awesome and as we can see comparatively cheap :)

Phew! Glad McLaren got that bit properly sorted

Yes, F1 is a fun clown show now. Am starting to better enjoy the Rom-Com and Bro Lovefest. You know the racing is really just an excuse to make believe....

Man, NASCAR really needs to step it up.

Thanks for the advise. My daughter will be working in Germany next year and we've talk about possibly going out to see her and taking in the Austrian GP. The area surrounding the Red Bull Ring looks like a postcard. Any advise on where to sit? Based on what can be seen in TV, it looks like the outside of T3 has a lot of action.

The Safety Car driver is really doing great! Hard conditions on a fast wet track. Gets my vote for F1 Sprint DOTD.

PS: McLaren banning Rosberg selfies is working. It's working!

PPS: It worked, both in the points!

Without DRS, and with weather/drying track forcing early pit stops for inters, we saw a real Sprint despite being shortened by laps behind the Safety Car.

No DRS didn't seem to hinder Max too much. I was really rooting for Oscar.

Recently start to develop a growing appreciation for F1 simply based on the engineering behind it and the hard work expected on everyone on the team.

Really amazing stuff. I'm considering watching the F1 series on Netflix. Anyone seen it?

Sorr for only answering now...

I can't really help because I'm not an expert by far! We were sitting right after T1 and it was very cool. I can imagine that T6-T8 are quite cool. As far as I remember this is where most of the Dutch fans were (Spielberg is somewhat their home turf) and they sure know how to create an amazing atmosphere!

Binotto to Alpine

Binotto has been with Ferrari for so long it will be interesting to see how he adapts to a French team based in the UK. Please, please take the Ferrari strategists with you, please.....

https://www.sportskeeda.com/f1/news-...w8OKSgbP-t4The anticipation for Binotto's appointment had been building ever since Szafnauer's departure. It now seems the former Ferrari man has accepted the offer from Luca De Meo, the CEO of Alpine. This move could mark a significant shift in the team's leadership and strategy.

With a wealth of experience from his time at Ferrari, where he served as the team principal, Binotto brings a new dimension to the Alpine F1team. As a highly respected figure in the motorsport world, his appointment could potentially bring in new opportunities for the team to excel.

Binotto's arrival at the British side comes with the full backing of the management, granting him the freedom to shape the team according to his vision. This includes the ability to make key decisions, such as recruiting new collaborators without any hindrance.
While the deal is yet to be officially confirmed by the parties involved, insiders suggest that the takeover is scheduled to take place in early September, subject to confirmation by all stakeholders involved.

This timeline will allow the former Ferrari boss to acclimatize to his new position and implement any necessary changes before the team's next major events.

During the recent private testing conducted by Pirelli at Spa, the racing community was abuzz with speculation as reports came out of Mattia Binotto being spotted on-site. While no official confirmation was provided at the time, the sighting further fueled rumors of his imminent appointment as team principal.

Binotto's move to Enstone-based outfit marks a significant shift in his career trajectory. Having spent many years with Ferrari, he now faces the challenge of leading a different team in the competitive world of F1.

His expertise in managing a prestigious team like Ferrari could prove invaluable to Alpine as they strive to improve their performance on the track.

As the summer break passes by and the resumption of the season approaches, all eyes will be on Alpine to see how the team responds to the new leadership under Binotto. If all goes as planned, the Italian executive will take charge from the Dutch Grand Prix onwards, ready to steer the team toward a promising future in F1.
