The only time I wear heels any more is when I get dressed up for a special event. Fell when I slipped on ice several years ago and broke my stupid foot right off my leg! Now I have a nice steel bar, about 8 screws and a couple of wires holding my ankle together. Wearing heels is ok for about an hour or two and then everything swells up and hurts like heck!

That is SO true, Rafael! They say that if you're really really lucky, you can go through your entire lifetime and only have one or two REAL friends who are...just as in your quote......people who came and never left your side.

Great pics Nancy, what a lovely family and the children are gorgeous.

As for the fighting/meltdowns etc...

Claire and I took William to a village fair yesterday and then out to the Royal Estate for a walk.

At the village fair, somebody gave him a Cadbury's creme egg...a whole one!!!! Followed by the line "Oh I'm sorry, is he allowed chocolate?" as he stuffed the entire thing in his mouth.

Last night we had the night from Hell.

At ten thirty pm I blessed the tap water with my Gideon Bible and sprinkled it on his head whilst screaming, "THE POWER OF CHRIST COMPELS YOU..."

What a night...never again!

We now have a chocloate egg embargo in place!

I never got to know either of my grandfathers but to me and as evidenced by those smiles, you Sir are doing a top notch job.

I can only hope that William's grandparents do as fine a job!!!!!!

Oh yeahhhh! My son and his wife didn't even give the kids Easter chocolate for that very reason! They buy little plastic eggs and fill them with Whole Grain Cheerios. I really believe it's not actually the chocolate itself, but some of the garbage additives and preservatives that send the kids over the edge!

My one granddaughter has a meltdown EVERY time there's a holiday or special event of some kind. In her case, it's because the changes in routine and added "air of stress" is something she just doesn't seem to be able to handle at this point. Yesterday it was because they were joining us at a club for Easter brunch. Just the simple act of choosing an outfit to wear became overwhelming for her and of course, being almost 5, the independence kicked in and she just couldn't accept any of mommy's suggestions! Hopefully, she'll outgrow it. It's SO hard on her parents....especially her mom who is pregnant right now!

Thank you very much Jim, I am sure that William's Grandparents take after you and your wife, and show him the very real love and pride that is obvious in your posts about him, the lad is truly blessed.

You are pretty smart, as there is research to back this up. Ever hear of the Feingold diet? There are parents whose kids are so sensitive to all the additives in all the food/candy marketed towards children. The behavioral changes (from avoiding the additives, colors, etc) the parents report are amazing.

Just to clarify Leo, I wasn't wearing heels when I fell. I was on my way to work in the winter, wearing flat winter boots, and slipped on black ice!

Absolutely! To make it worse....I was living by myself at the time and doing even the simplest tasks was brutal. I think I cried non stop for the whole first month.

I think the worst part is wearing a cast. Was your foot put in a cast? Many years ago I broke my left wrist bicycling off road with a friend. I continued to bicycle for about a half hour and told my friend I thought it was broken and planned on going home. I had to carry my bike across a small stream and bicycle 3 1/2 miles to get home. Went to the doctor's(Rheumatologist), he took an X-ray and said he thought it was fractured. But I would have to see the orthopedic specialist who wasn't going to be in till the following monday. So that weekend I continued to bicycle on my racing bike and painted the kitchen. On monday I went out for a 30 mile bike ride and then went to the doctor to get a cast put on. For the first half hour it wasn't bad but after that it was horrible and itchy till I got it off. I would use my mothers knitting needles to scratch my itch!!!

black ice is the worst! you cannot see it and down you go...
for driving, you hit the black ice, never see it(unless your lucky enough to have a second or two max if there's a reflection from a light source), and into a slide or spin you go.......

my sympathies on your injury!

The cast was a pain. Because it was my foot, I had to keep my leg elevated all the time for about a month at least. Otherwise, the blood flow would cause swelling and the pain was excruciating!

I know your ordeal must have been very frustrating and living alone did not make it any easier. I really hate to see anyone in pain and have empathy for those who do!!!

Did that driving once when I was in my 20's. I was on my way to work, driving on a major highway...three lanes each side. Hit black ice close to the shoulder...panicked 'cause it was my first winter driving and slammed on the brakes.....the car went completely sideways.....crossed all three lanes.......crossed the median...crossed all three lanes on the other side and came to a stop on the shoulder. This was morning rush hour. SOMEBODY sure as heck was watching out for me that morning!

Ordeals are trying and hard on the psych but they do teach us and help build our character. I have had to deal with a lot of physical pain the past 20 years but it has taught me that I am strong, I will make it and I can be there for others!!!

I guess if I had to pick, it would be Caroline (my given name). But really, any of the three are fine. In real life, most people call me Caroline, except for hubby -- who has a half dozen nicknames for me.

If I hear "Caroline" coming out of his mouth, I am really in trouble for something!
