Great story - thanks for sharing... another lesson to never judge a book by its cover!

Cool to see that he has great taste :) 996 GT3 - many believe the most pure gen. Still waiting for my 991.2 GT3 call...

I have no idea what UPS pays, but I hear it's a fantastic company to work for and they treat their employees really well.

There's been a lot of judgement about how this fellow could afford such things. I'm not Really gonna get too far into that since I have no clue what his paycheck could be, but I'll say a couple things...

A. Everyone's priorities are different. It's Quite simple. Part of the reason I can afford nice watches is because I have no other costly hobbies. I rarely drink, I don't smoke, I don't go to fancy restaurants or out to eat on a regular basis at all. I play a few sports but cheap ones lol, I don't golf. You get the point.

B. I have a friend of a friend who owns a beautiful brand new Audi RS6. He recently just purchased a brand new BMW M6 to accompany his Audi. He's about 35. I asked my buddy if he's killin it lately. My buddy replied, yeah he's doing ok, but if by killing it you mean living with his parents in his childhood bedroom, rent and bill free, yeah he's "killin" it.

Was he on 'Mamas boys of the Bronx'? That isn't that uncommon in NYC is it?

On a side note, it's fascinating to see RF'ers get so shocked when the "plebeians" have a Rolex or nice cars...How dare they!

This thread is funny cause I've never known a UPS driver whom owned a Porsche, but have seen many a UPS driver whom drive the UPS truck as if it were a Porsche!

It reminds me of one night at a local watering hole; a guy was wearing an older diamond encrusted stainless DJ with what appeared to be an aftermarket dial. He was more than in love with it and hadn't a clue about collectability or loss of value due to counterfeit parts. I held my tongue and let him revel in his good fortune at owning a Rolex.

$32-34/hr straight time. Plus a ton of OT and stock options. They work hard and they earn their pay

One of the new guys at the department is maxing out his deferred compensation with every paycheck. His wife is a dispatcher and also makes good money. By the time he retires he'll have over a million in just his 403B, not even including his pension. Start young, be smart with your money, and you'll be set!!!

I have no idea what the mamas boys of the Bronx is but sounds about right. Although in this case it would be "Mamas boys of Long Island". Not far off!

I have a friend that just got out of school with a mechanical engineering degree. He got on with UPS as an engineer and passed their management test. He almost makes as much as I do after 10 years of engineering in aerospace! They're doing well over there!

You're all forgetting that some people work jobs not for the money, but for the medical insurance.

Management is a dangerous different story. I knew a guy who started loading trucks at UPS. He went to become a driver then management. He had a nice career and retirement until he passed away. Super nice guy too.

As mentioned, if it was a UPS store then he may well own the franchise. If it was a UPS hub, who knows the story, but it would be really cool to hear him tell it. It could be anything from stock when they went public to a trust fund and anything in between.

I plan on retiring from my day job in my early 50's but plan on getting a different job for fun.

Cool story. Love meeting other watch/car nuts.

FYI my little brother has worked for UPS for 20+ years. He's a teamster. They have great benefits. He makes 100k a year driving a truck. He will retire in his early 50's. We all told him to go to college but he started right out of high school. He has made a good life for himself and his family. It is tough on the body though. He works hard.
Lol, he does not wear a Rolex or drive a Porsche, but not because he can't afford it, it is just not his thing.

Choosing a few passions ie. cars and watches and living the rest of your life humbly is how one builds net worth. Look at Warren Buffet still lives in his home from the 50's, drives humble cars, does own a older President I believe but likes to travel in a private jet.

I love having conversations with people who are passionate about their watches and cars vs those that have a Rolex because "everyone knows Rolex is expensive."
one of my girls in hs. parents were borh very successful doctors. rhey lived in a nice but modest home same with cars and watchsa. but they went on insane vacations.

That is a great story! In spite of what a lot of people think, it really is possible to own a Rolex and be humble at the same time! What a concept.

Cheers,
Carl

Just wondering, what's insane. Europe/Asia/Africa/Saint-Tropez/Bora Bora/...
