The model number for the original watch which was known as the "non-America's Cup" is 2230.50.

The original "America's Cup" model was introduced as a limited edition in late 1999. It had a printed dial with the America's Cup logo and a white gold bezel. It did not sell all that well and NOS versions still show up.

After production ceased, Omega briefly sold a version without the "AC" logo which became known as the "non-America's Cup" model 2230.50. This model had raised markers rather than printed and retained the WG bezel. Although it was not a limited edition, it quickly sold out and is very difficult to find NOS or pre-owned in today's market.

I had searched for a year or so for the "non-AC" when received my 2254.50 as a Christmas gift in 2008 and that ended my search. As Providence would have it, I came across the "non-AC" dial on eBay and made the switch from this:

to this:

Later I added the WG bezel.

Here is the one i used to own back in 2009. I really did love the watch, definitely the most accurate Omega (or watch in general) that I owned. I ended up selling it to help with a down payment i was making on a house purchase. I like how easy it was to manipulate the time keeping consistency of the 1120 movement. It would always gain a second dial up and lose a second crown up. So alternating positions at night would keep the watch +0/day forever. Wish my seadweller would act that way.

Here is a iphone resolution wallpaper i made of it by cropping a high-res macro shot if anybody is interested:

I have my first every Omega incoming next week - EB SMP 2255.80 on a speedy. Will be interesting to do a real world comparison with my 16610 that is relagated to a safe queen (for now). Both discontinued classics.

You saw an "after" on the mesh but here's one on the black rubber Omega strap:

Hope you find one.

Have a question, Fr. John. I also own a GMT "great white" I bought in 2004 as a gift to myself after returning from Iraq. Is the ref number for this watch 2254 something? Is it also considered a SMP (330m)? Thanks!

The model number of the GMT "great white", is 2538.20.00 which is a Seamaster Professional 300 M Chronometer GMT.

The full model number of the 2254, is 2254.50.00, it is a Seamaster Professional 300 M Chronometer.

The other watch shown in this tread, is the Non-America's Cup 2230.50.00, it is a Seamaster Professional 300 M Chronometer with a white gold bezel.

Does anyone know of ADs that still have any of these BNIB? Trying to help a friend locate his ideal Omega (and first nice watch). Thanks!

In Toronto European Jewellers in the Eaton Centre still has one as does Humbertown Jewellers I believe. They do come up from time to time on TRF if you are patient (and quick when they show up). Nice watch although I do prefer the black face GMT with the 1/2 black and 1/2 silver bezel.

I had a 2254.50 but traded it away a couple years ago
and I had a 2255.80...until I sold it to a coworker....TODAY(kinda feeling seller's remorse already)
but on the plus side, I still have my bond 2531.80 and my rough and tumble 2254 stand in...the very worthy 2264.50(yeah, I know it's a quartz)
If I had only one Omega Diver...2254 would get my vote, hands down and

I got mine about 2 years ago at European Jewelers in Toronto, initially I wanted to buy the Bond version with the co-axial escapement but the difference in price was significant so I went for the old SMP with black face, now I am very happy with what I did as I like more the sword hands than the esqueleton hands.

When I compare my SMP with my GMTIIC the SMP look amazing, it is well made, it has great quality and a very accurate movement, it is a keeper…

I picked another up about two months ago. Don't plan on selling this one. It's my second 2254; fifth overall seamaster pro. Hopefully I have it in me to keep it more long term.

It may have faded. My Seamaster Bond was faded almost completely away. My AD used a red sharpie on it at a recent service and it looks great again. ;)

Cheers,
B.
