I'll echo some of thoughts here. Luminosity has merit for me as there are situtations where being able to read the time in less than ideal conditions is important to me.
Having said that I tend to agree with those that feel Rolex luminosity could be improved. The maxi has done a bit to narrow the gap and in my experience the DSSD chromalite has gone a bit futher, but still due to the "look" Rolex seeks some other brands are a bit better (Not counting Ball, luminox, etc... with gas light). Normally I favor keeping the original tritium dial/hands set in place. Having said that a couple things come to mind. 1. The condition of the dial plays a huge factor for me in making the decision. I've replaced trit. dials that were just plain shot and tritium falling off. I've seen dials that due to neglect have no value and actually decrease the overall value of an otherwise nice case'lugs, etc.... Here I think a service dial has merit in that at least the watch is 100% functional and the movement is not at risk from migrating flakes. 2. The reference and it's collectability/rarity/history. Replacing an otherwise nice original tritium dial will have some influence on the value of the piece. How much depends on what it is and how many were made. A mid-90s EXP II won't lose as much as say a 1665 or some other vintage piece, but it's best to factor in all circumstances. |

I love it when they light up...but it does not factor in when buying the watch...it's just a bonus

Lume is important to me because I work both days and nights.
When I am writing a report or something happens, it is important to get the exact time of the event. It isn't always tactically a good idea to pull out my iPhone and light up my face! However, it is not a selling point when I am buying a watch. |

Is lume important?
It depends. If I had Luminova indices and hands, then I would readily swap them out. However if it were tritium which fades over time, I would rather have the faded patina than the brighter lume. Hope this helps. |

I think Lume is cool and adds a nice feature / look to a watch but the day mine wears out I won't be heart broken. I don't wear my watches to bed and there's always my cellphone to check time if it's too dark.

It comes in handy when you are in a dimly lit location.

I wear my watch all night also therefore lume is important. I love Rolex but this is one area of opportunity for Rolex when compared to Ball, Omega and even Traser on the lower end.
