For me Quality always wins... even if it means if I only have 1 watch to wear...

Hmm it is definitely a subjective thing. I think everyone agrees that a Patek is a very high quality watch. At the same time i do not think anyone would say the other watches you mentioned (rolex, breitling) are not high quality either.

The question really is would you have more pleasure with 4 high quality watches of differing themes or just one very high quality dress watch.

For me since the Patek does very little for me (im just not that interested in dress watches) so i would not hesitate in selling the Patek and getting the other watches on your list. Of course if the Patek were a family heirloom or something then that is different.

Starting my collection, it feels like quantity. As time goes on, I plan on replacing, piece by piece much higher quality pieces

Quality for sure. Your Patek is great. I wouldn't even think of selling it.

How about quality in quantity....sell your PP....get 4 or 5 pre-owned Rolexes......a collection to be proud of....& you'll have a different Rolex to wear each day of the week....remember...he who dies w/ the most Rolexes wins!

x2!

I prefer 4 $5000 watches than 1 $20,000 watch

I would never trade my Sub, ExpII and GMT Master II Pepsi for just one $15-$20k watch especially a dress watch. For me its no contest.

Sell the Patek and buy a few nice watches with the money?

But its your 'grail' watch.

Why are you asking this question??

Check out this guy's collection of mainly omegas:
http://chronocentric.com/forums/omeg...e=1;read=58771

Let me preface this by saying that I definitely believe that Omega are quality watches.

Every now and then, I am tempted to buy some..this is especially because I could get a Planet Ocean, Speedmaster, 300m and an Aqua Terra for the price of one Submariner.
I could thus build an Omega collection much more quickly!

However..while they are lovely watches..it just doesn't do it for me the way Rolexes do (don't want to start a Rolex v. Omega war)!

So..I shall wait it out to get one Rolex rather than multiple Omegas.

Sidenote: It is interesting to me that Omega collectors generally have large collections. I personally saw in a Thai watch magazine that some guy in Bangkok had a collection of over 900+ Omegas (he even collected dealer stuff!)

To put it another way, while Omega watches are fine time pieces...I would rather have a 4-5 Rolexes than 30 Omega watches. The reasons are mainly subjective and monetary (I prefer to buy 2nd hand Rolexes and they therefore hold their value relatively well).

exactly the same "problem" im facing! to me, there isnt really a grail watch, but rather different watches i would love to have at each price point. a grail would probably be the jlc skeletonised minute repeater but with the price its totally out of the question for now

i have a tag, omega and jlc. rolex is within my affordable range for now, but im always thinking of whether i should save the money of probably 3 rolexes and get a pp instead

we are pretty spoilt when it comes to watch choices i think, there seems to be very nice watches at every price point. so now i guess its a matter of setting a price point and then eyeing the watch

X2 Myself not a huge fan of Patek yes there watches with many complications none can match them. But there standard line many other brands for quality can, except for perhaps the name on the dial.In todays market two brands stand out for holding there price well in the market Patek and Rolex.

You've got all you need right there. A dress watch, an every day multipurpose one and a beater. The way I see it, you're done.
I might change out the DJ for a TT DJ, and the Explorer for a SD, but that's me.
You got it right!

I totally agree. If you no longer like your Patek, then maybe it's time for a change. But both Rolex and Patek are quality.

While I love Patek, I'm not lusting after one, but that's me. If you want more watches then you have two choices as stated above by Sakuraba, either keep the Patek and save for the others or sell the Patek and buy them. But as Nicko said, 'It all depends on what you want'.

So, what do you want?

Btw, nice collection

Quantity. Although the sentiment is quality I have to say that I'd rather have two 5K watches and one 10K rather than a single 20K watch. There is no real one watch fits all occasions IMO. At the very very least any man should have a great dress watch and a great sport watch.
