The good thing about those types of threads, is they motivated you to post. Seven posts since December.......hmm. Welcome to TRF.
The truth sure can be funny! Thanks for the chuckle, Joey.

Ah.... I really do not care who notices my watch.
At first I did, but now that I have a 3rd, it's because I like the watch and that's that. It seems to me that those who do care who sees what are those new to the hobby.

Hey George - here's post #8 I was just expressing my opinion - nothing else. I may not post here often, but I check out this site daily and enjoy most watch and non-watch converstaions. I realize this is more than a watch site, rather a gathering place - a place to have fun My post was intended to find out who else has similar thoughts as I - nothing more my friends. |

Or does it depend on the type of torque wrench? SS torque wrench should be ok with casual? TT torque wrench, I reckon Tuxedo and bow tie? and JJ's Rolex cufflinks! |

I always notice someone else's watch just because I'm interested in watches. I usually don't draw any conclusions about them until/unless there is some conversation. What always surprises me is when you ask someone about their Sub and they give you a blank stare with barely an acknowledgement that they are wearing anything other than just a watch.

Don't read those threads if they make you sick?
I'm not a big fan of "wrist check" threads so I just don't click on them! Depending on the company one keeps these can be very relevant to some. I can see a scenario where someone who is living modestly acquires a luxury watch as a reward for whatever success or goal they achieved and stuns his or her peers. I personally know some very wealthy people that drive the crappiest cars that most would be embarrassed to be seen in but live in amazing houses and go on incredible vacations with no mortgage debt or other. So to the outside world they are "broke". Acquiring your first luxury watch can be stressful but after a while people around you just figure that you're insane and move on with it ;) |

If the only posts on the forum were factual posts of reference, then it would, IMHO be a pretty boring place, granted, good for information, but thats about it, if someone wants to post this or that, then fine, if it is not to ones taste, dont click on it, others may have a different opinion and enjoy the topic, doesn't mean they are wrong.

Its easy. If you don`t like the tread skip it. I do this with every part of my life. If I don`t like someone or something I remove myself from that person or thing. It works well for me. I try to live my life like a german made bearing.....roll through life with miminal friction. lol

Until I started reading this forum, I would never have had any idea that people put as much time as they did into thinking about their watch. Most of these threads would never have entered my mind otherwise. But they're great because they're a reminder when I find myself clicking on them....it's time to go do something else!

I am a member on four Forums. A wine forum, a sports car forum, a coffee forum and TRF. What makes a forum enjoyable for me, is the variety of threads no matter how bizzare or pretentious, and the good manners and courtesy (& particularly humour) with which members treat other members who they clearly regard as barking mad or idiots.

It's funny, I was out for a happy hour with some customers, vendors and employees today and was wearing my YM.
I drive a Honda which is the least expensive car out of the group that was with us...anyway, my point is that I started thinking about this site and these threads and thought, they have no idea what type of watch it is or that it is nearly $10,000 - for a watch! I think most people have an idea that a Sub is a Rolex but would never think that the YM is anything more than a pretty watch - unless they have some affection for watches. Wear what you want and I don't worry what others think. Heck one person in the group was driving a new 5 - Series BMW and I know that they are living well above what they make! lol -Pete

Nice rabbit. I'd suggest a YM with the duck and a Cellini with the black tie.

What I like about this place is the fact that it is probably the only place where the lives of sooo many diff backgrounds intersect...... considering all the ethnic, social, economic, religious back grounds that tread here.
New money meets old money, techies meet laborers, men meet women (uh hem).....and so on. I'm soo over the whole "I'm soo cool because I'm a watch god thing":...... remember the popularity of this site and the rolex brand starts with a non-wis asking a rolex wearer many silly questions....... no need to laugh at them or appear superior..... everyone starts somewhere...... Like it or not Rolex is a brand that exudes a certain lifestyle/image and perhaps it is that lifestyle/image which makes it so popular and desirable to the majority of the world. Now to the WIS (which I don't claim to be any expert, but I am addicted to the watches) some WIS's are turned off by all the lifestyle/social club threads/comments...... I just think that is a byproduct of the marketing...... the successful marketing....... |
