Hello Leo and Dan!!
Thank you for your kind comments!!
I´m delighted to know you liked it!
Yes, I feel very fortunate with this find, though all the merit goes to my friend seller of vintage and pre owned watches, here. He surely makes some very interesting finds from time to time, and is good to be in touch with him.
Thank you again, and I send my best cordial regards dear friends!!
Abel

So, Abel, are you implying in your initial post that you never get to actually wear your fabulous gold watches in Argentina?

This is one amazing DD. The 1803 is a definite possibility for me down the road, esp. in pink (or white) gold. Are you getting used to the slow-set day and date? The instructions I've seen are somewhat intimidating...

Hello Adam!
Always nice to receive your comments! I´m glad you liked this ref 1803 with 41 years vintage on it.

Under the present local situation of insecurity, you may use a gold Rolex, or whichever high end watch you wish, in certain circumstances, and taking some precautions, like e.g, not showing out of your shirt cuffs while driving, and doing so with your windows up.
Then I wouldn´t use it in casual clothes showing, or in situations where I´ll be paying little attention to my surroundings.

Unfortunately, this is the way I use them now, and gold ones in very few occassions, like a social event, wedding, celebration, etc..
Also to sport a gold watch daily is seen as rather "showy" here, except by those who understand your passion for timepices.

Regarding setting dates, I hadn´t done it yet but was shown how to.
Not intimidating, but requiring some patience. Same than my old 1680 and my old Date which do not have the quick set feature. Day settining is made in opposite turn direction of date number.

Always nice to echange comments with you Adam!! I send my best cordial regards, Abel.

It's an excellent example and that white dial with the subtle red markings, just perfect.

PRESIDENT MODEL FINDS A NEW HOME!!

Hola Amigos!! Hello friends!

Well, I couldn´t stand it anymore, so I imagined a good excuse to tell my manager and left my office earlier today, just in time to reach my favorite friendly vintage watch seller at Buenos Aires down town.

As I had told in previous post, he had called me to tell me something special was received. He only told me it was a vintage 1969 President, and that it was going to please me a lot. As usual, he prefers to maintain a suspense to add an aura to his offerings, so he gave a few little details.

I´m rather far from downtown, and office rather busy lately to respond his call immediately, but desire and intrigue are powerful motivations, so I went to pay a visit to the little shop.

As you may see in the pictures, my friendly seller was telling me the truth.

He had gotten a very special example of the yellow gold Day Date model, 1969 vintage, with its matching President bracelet, dated also 1969, and the whole piece showing very little previous use.
(It is very usual to find Presidents with little use here, because they are mostly bought as an achievement memento, or to fulfill a luxury desire, and then used in very few special occasions, as it is not very safe to wear a good watch lately in the streets of Buenos Aires, much less a gold Rolex!)

This watch has a beautiful white dial, with gold baton markers, and black minute track, with red numbers at 15-30-45 and 60 minutes. Not very usual dial I feel, and typical of Rolex of some vintage. The President bracelet also shows the old model clasp.

I found this watch so charming, that it was love at first sight, and as usual, I tried to show very little interest and excitement, though I guess I couldn´t reach my goal at my best.
Your best “poker face” is the best thing to have when discussing a good price with a seller, as showing excitement is no good at all. Anyway, I did my best, in spite that my hart was pounding hard and loud, and a very nice deal was closed, so I happily brought my new watch home.

To say I´m very happy is an understatement, as I love the looks of this watch dial, and the overall condition of the watch is almost as new as when it left the AD so many years ago. A great discovery indeed, I couldn´t let pass.

It´s curious I had never considered to buy a President before, but some weeks ago I begun thinking about it, after viewing several outstanding examples here, at TRF, and then when I received so many responses to my previous post (http://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=139709) a few days ago.

So many awesome examples shown by you, nice guys at TRF, made me “gold crazy” indeed!!
I thank you all for your kind attention, and specially to all those nice friends who sent pictures of their own beauties.
Hope you like these photos, and I send my best cordial regards, Abel.

Very nice watch. I was just in BA a few months ago for business. The company I work for has its headquarters in BA and I get the chance to go their at least once a year. Very nice city and country.

Cheers.....

Hello friends!! It´s so rewarding to receive these many posts with your kind comments about my new watch. This adds a lot of enjoyment to the owning of this piece.

I also appreciate the kind offering of Paul to get rid of this watch. Will think about his tempting offering during this week end!!

To Cardinal Fans, I love to know he enjoyed his visit to Buenos Aires.

To all nice friends who showed their own Presidents and made to fire up my desire to own one, thanks again!!

Once again: this is a great place to be and enjoy and share our passion. Thank you folks!!
Best cordial regards, Abel.
