I attended a memorial service for a friend of mine yesterday. He was only 60. His motto, or guiding mantra was "What Matters". To paraphase, it is not the financial wealth, material accumulation one aquires in life, or even the time that you are on this earth, but what matters is the positive influences in other people's lives that you have helped. The ripples of kindness, courage, and generosity will travel on. Rest in peace, Ken.

you dont have to be a rich man to help others
you could be earning 40k a year and do much more than a person who earns 150k.. its the small things that count, like helping elders with their luggage when they go up or down stairs or doing volunteer work once in a while

I work on cruise ships, and 2 years ago was onboard when a ship was decommissioned and sold. We had an Officers bar onboard which was run privately by the members, and over the period of the ships life (40 years) had amassed a fortune of £35,000 through the management of the 'club'. I was fortunate enough to have been in the position to have been around when we gave it all away to various charities, and that has to have been one of the most fulfilling things I've ever seen. We gave to all sorts, from terminally ill children, to animals homes and veterans - an amazing time of my life I'll remember forever.
