Shade, you have a great collection. I especially like the Lange 1 it is my favourite dial combination for this classic piece.

Howard, thank you for your kind words.

With regards to the moonphase, the colour is different from the dial and is a more silver in colour.

Yes, there has been quite a bit of discussion on other forums regarding the size of the font and some Patek's it is quite large, but in this case, I find it quite acceptable.

Thank you for all your kind coments.

It is a stunning watch. Congrats!!

Pardon me for asking, but what was the reason for getting rid of the 5146J? Did you not like the feel/size of it? For you is the dial easier to read on the 5205 compared to the 5146? Is having the am/pm dial worth it more than the charge indacator? Also on the 24hrs dial can you use it for seperate time zones, like a GMT, or is it just an am/pm indacator? Really wondering cause I'm looking at both, and since you've owned both you're the best person I could ask.

I also understand evey person has different opinions/tastes, and that I need to see and feel them for myself to get the right idea of both. But for me to see them in person means I have to drive a couple of hours. And I would like to have a better knowledge of what I'm going to look at from a person's point of view rather than just stunning pp website pics and documentation.
-=thanks=-

Beautiful! My father had a 50's Patek ... the rectagular elongated one with slightly concave sides, but cannot remember the model. My sister took it after he passed.

Absolutely stunning....I love that side view of the bezel and the lugs. The dial is even more stunning and is very well balanced in it's layout. Congrats on such a fine piece!!!

Vernon 43, Basically with the 5146J, I just fell out of love with Y/G and instead did a deal with my AD and instead bought the 5146G with the cream dial and the newer (to that model) 324 movement.

Over the years since I first bought the 5146, my tastes have changed several times, at one period I did have a 5140G, but found that I didn't like it, so swapped it for an FP Journe Black Label Calendrier, which was an annual calendar.

My current taste is for watches with apertures and the 5205G filled that criteria.

Regarding the power reserve indicator, though useful if you don't intend to wear it on a regular basis. I wear mine virtually 24/7 so it isn't necessary.
The am/pm hand is just that and can't be used to indicate a second timezone.

With regards to legibility I would have to say that the 5146 with the cream dial is better, you would also have the advantage of the luminous hands & dots around the dial.

I have just written a report on my first 6 weeks of wearing my 5205G, which you can find, by following this link: http://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=158393

The 5205 is a slightly larger diameter watch at 40mm compared to 39mm but sits higher of the wrist then the latter. And does not come with a deployant unlike the 5146.

My strong advice to you, would be to take that two hour drive, once you have checked the ADs availability and see them for yourself, nothing can replace the actual experience of wearing them, also when you do try them on, ask the AD if you can see what they look like in natural light, as that will make a difference.

Good luck and lets us know what you decide upon?

Regards

Tony
