WOW! I don't know exactly what they are going to do, but that sounds like a huge amount of money!
I also don't know how much you are into watches, but changing the face and hands can have a very negative impact on the value of the watch. I'll PM you a couple of names for servicing in your are that were sent to me by the gracious members of this forum, at that price I'd definitely go for another estimate.

$868 (tax in? or add 12% HST) from Rolex Canada with FedEx insured there and back is about 23% more than the $600 + taxes your flat rate AD would charge. But, it seems fair to me in a free market. You can't compare Rolex Canada to an AD's in-house tech on price but there are other tangible and intangible benefits to both. From my experience, Rolex literally takes the whole watch apart. Some AD's do the tube, polish, lube, buff and away you go and call it 'major service' or 'refurb'. Rolex does more IMO. I restored a 14060 at Rolex Canada and another 14270 at my AD and I have to say, the work from Rolex Canada was better. I paid $900 (FedEx incl) for the 14060 and $750 (no shipping) for the 14270. The 14060 turned out better. This was just my experience.

Yeah it is darn huge and I said no to the repair for now until I get another estimate.

And thanks for the PM Paul.
