Man, I loved walking out of that AD in Vegas the first time I bought my Rolex. It's a feeling of elation, pride and success.

Ahh, the first time....for me was a total surprise. Wife and I were at a small chain jeweler selling our unworn gold and silver jewelry. As they were writing us the check, I commented that I had my first payment for a Rolex. ( wife and I had discussed it and decided I was going to wait about a year) Well, the salesman asked if we wanted to see a few pre owned pieces he had in his vault. I was very hesitant and left the decision to the wife. The salesman said, it can't hurt to look. Next thing you know, the mrs and I were looking at a tt serti sub with slate dial. She liked it and thought I should have it. Man, was I in total shock! Now, the serti dial may not have been my first choice but it was a great looking watch, a little more unique looking and I sure was not going to say no thanks!
I'll never forget that day! Best Of luck to you and, offer them how much you are willing to pay. If they don't bargain, c ya, I'll look around.

Just like the first time should be!!! Of all the compulsive hobbies I've had, Rolex is the only one that pleasures me every time I look at my wrist 24/7/365

They are both very nice watches. DSSD is made for gentlemen of large stature such as yourself. Wear both of them and buy which ever you like the most. You will probably be able to get a better price on DSSD. Good luck and keep us posted.

Welcome to this great forum! And congrats to a great purchase ahead of you.
The first time I tried out a Rolex I was disappointed, they still had PLASTIC crystals... The second time I was once again disappointed, the bracelet was so flimsy compared to the Omega I had ... but I still wanted one... The third time I held two Explorers in my hand. The 16570 that I really wanted and the 14270 that was (at that time) better suited for my wrist size. I walked away with the 14270 on my wrist, but couldn't not let go of the image of the black second hand moving, so many years later I added an Explorer II ... and others... My very first encounter with a Rolex was a friend of my father's 1675, but I was never allowed to try it on. The 14270 has become my all time favourite, by the way. Best, A |

deep sea sea dweller (DSSD) is a bit of a monster, i mean that in a fairly positive way. my only dislike and it's a big one: the DSSD is difficult to fit under dress shirt cuffs... this is a deal breaker for me personally. Alternatively, if what I've just mentioned is of concern, i'd suggest a Sea Dweller, this is a beauty and a timeless design... more robust in measurement than the Submariner both are similar and the absence of the cyclops on the Sea Dweller makes it the first, the DSSD, the second in the Rolex line up to have this style...
i wouldn't recommend daytonas for personal reasons. i don't have a need for the complications and i don't like the look of a dial that has a dial(s)... i also don't like the presence of polished stainless steel, i prefer the brushed look always... both are fine watches nonetheless. look at the DSSD, if that guy is too big, check out the SD and if you don't like that, check out a daytona, the latter is selling at quite the discount vs. 12 months ago... so this would be the right time to buy... good luck |

My first Rolex was a Submariner 16610 which I still wear and love! I bought it after having had three Omega Seamasters which I was a great fan of. I am still a great fan of Omega watches (although I sold all three of mine) but once I tried on my Submariner for the first time I was absolutely delighted. I couldn't imagine now being without my Submariner of my GMT-Master II and I hope I will be wearing both for very many years to come! I do miss my Omega watches (especially the Seamaster PO 42mm) but you can't beat the Sub IMHO.
Enjoy your DSSD and wear it in good health :) M |
