The green dial YG GMT was a HUGE disappointment when I slipped one on; couldn't believe how much I DIDN'T like it! Kind of a good thing though, a lot of $'s! But, once I tried on the SS white face Daytona, I understood all the hype about this watch, a great piece!

Gotta say, the YG Yacht II didn't do a thing for me until I tried one on. Absolutely loved it then! But, not enough $'s in the coffers to justify picking it up.

funny, just the opposite

Generally, I think Rolex looks much better in person than in pix-- compared to some other brands. Those watches with beautiful details on the dials, etc. look so sharp in magification but lose a lot when seen at the 40mm size. Even more so the detailing on the movements. |

Well for me it was the 116610LV... I had dreamed about it since I saw the first pictures surface. I just knew that I had to have one... Well that day came and I purchased from my AD a couple of months back. Unfortunately the green on the bezel and dial do not match and this was a deal breaker for me I just could not get used to it so I sold it. The pics are amazing but in person it just didnt work for me

I like some of the DJ II watches especially the TT with the green romans but the watch is too large and the bezel is much larger than the 36mm version.

the DSSD.....Looks cool in the pics, but it's WAY too tall in person.

I realized I didn't list my experience. I hated hated the smurf blue tt subc in pics. I went to store tried it on and fell in love with it. Same thing with the SS green sub.
Loved the Explorer in pics but tried it on and it did nothing for me at all. I thought at the time that would be my next watch. |

I have to say the Day Date II in ROSE GOLD. It looked so weird in an ad and so off-color in person. Just an odd color. Too close to copper pipe for my taste. IMHO...

Great topic and feedback. We should devise a poll...
What strikes me is that some of the most lusted after Rolex's (Daytona's, Subs etc) are all mentioned, both for and against... but..... no-one has mentioned disappointment with their GMTIIc's (except the TT, and that doesn't count )

no one regrets the original sea dweller 4000, because well - it just rules as a watch :)
I'd say the Milgauss for me too, the white dial just looked off to me. |

For me, the White Expy II. Was going to go to my AD and buy it, no joke. Absolutely loved all the pics I saw here on TRF. I still love the pics, but it just doesn't seem to be made for me.
Tried it on and was like .....'eh.... Then my AD made (yes made) me try on a white Panerai. That is where my downhill slide began, but that day, I walked out with a IIc (which I now regret!). Oh well, such is life

Most ladies' Rolex models, including the classic TT DJ with fluted bezel, do absolutely nothing for me. I was not interested in Rolex at all, but fell in love with the TT/blue Submariner ("Bluesy").
Because Rolex does not make a woman's Submariner, I became interested in the Yachtmaster. I initially liked photos of the TT/blue Yachtmaster, and wanted to get that one. When I saw it in person, however, I was totally underwhelmed. The watch dealer suggested the SS/platinum model (which does not always show well in photos, Jocke's photos on TRF notwithstanding). When I saw it in person I loved it, got it, and have been wearing it for 10 years this month. |

Disappointed in person: YM - for some reason the bracelet seems too light and flimsy. The red hand is too bright. Despite this, I'm still strangely attracted to this watch.
The Explorer I always impressed me in person: especially the new model. It seems more substantial in person. |

I don't want to hammer on the DSSD. I absolutely loved the size of case. When I put it on, it definitely worked. However, long term do the height off of the wrist I needed to get rid of it.
The Sub-C I just couldn't get past the squareness of the watch due to the lug thickness. I tried....., but it didn't work out. I really want to like this watch. Never was a YM fan. Picked one up with a couple of watches I bought from a gentlemen, and it grew on me. Sold it and later missed it enough to buy another.

Deep sea for me...looks gorgeous in pics but I don't think the bracelet does it justice and was way too thick and sat badly on my wrist...painful and cut off the circulation to my hand

The Milgauss GV. Not impressed but then a friend got one. Awesome. Also, never cared for the Exp II Polar but tried one on at local AD and looked and felt great. Bought my wife a YM and liked it a lot. Didn't think the 40 mm version was for me. Again blown away at the AD. Gonna see what the new Exp looks like. But all three on my list to compliment my GMTII 16710 and TT Sub 16613.

Liked in pictures but not in handling - old SD (illusion of small dial), Daytona (looked small and busy) and GMTIIc (horrible bezel and blingy bracelet)
Did not like in pictures but looks great in flesh DSSD and new Sub |

I was disappointed the first time I tried the Milgauss on. I felt that it was too big for me, and I am still struggling to get used to the polished lugs and center parts of the bracelet.
When I saw the first pictures of the Milgauss I said to myself that I should buy it... Best, A |

For me, it was, dare I say it, the steel Daytona. I'd been taken in by all the hype and excitement surrounding it, so the first time I actually handled one, I was actually pretty underwhelmed. Certainly a clean and simple chronograph, but there was no "wow" factor for me. It might be the dials - for me, the TT and Gold models hold a lot more allure, they seem to have a bit more personality.
On the flipside, I was sure I was going to hate the new LV before I saw it IRL, and I was blown away. I love the way the dial plays with the light, and the green of the bezel is much nicer than in pictures. Not one I would buy, but I was a lot more impressed than I thought I would be |

for me it was the President...sorry. Wanted one for a long time and when I was finally ready, tried on my friends and it did nothing. I've never looked at them the same way since then...

So far I have not been disappointed with any of the Rolex models. I happen to like all the tool watches and someday I will have a Day Date in white gold!!!
