Be careful on the tax thing too. If you are buying from an AD that has multiple stores in multiple states (ex Tourneau) they shipment has to be to a state where they don't have a store. Otherwise they will be authorized to collect sales tax in that state.

I live in NY. If I buy from T and have them ship to my Aunt in NJ, I will have to pay NJ tax since they operate stores in NJ. If I have them ship to my Aunt in CT, I pay no sales tax since they do not operate stores there and and therefore are not authorized to collect sales tax there.

I do know that when I went in they offered me a little discount or 12 months interest free. One or the other, not both.

This is the correct answer. Unless you really want the experience of buying the watch at an AD, I see no reason to not buy it from one of the sellers here.

After reading all the threads about stolen rolexes being taken buy rolex and stuff like that I would rather just go to a AD.. Also with the finance thing , I know cash is king but no the US dollar.. My dollar is worth alot more now then it will be in a year and I belive with the interest I make on $5000 of silver it will pay for the watch in a year.. The dollar is decining quick and silver will hit $100 so why not take the 0%!!

I called a coupe of dealers in NY and I got it for 8% off and 0% for 12 months and ship to NJ no tax so it $5409 shipped but do not have my model in stock and would have to order it. I also called another AD and they said they have the watch in stock but would not talk over the phone. Will take a ride there tomm and hopefully have my rolex!!

Usually you won't get free financing with a discount but you can sure ask.

I agree with others...if you aren't going to use one of the trusted TRF sellers, then find a seller who will give you a cash discount. I paid cash for my Yachtmaster 10 years ago and got a sizeable discount (much more than 12%).

Why not set aside the $$ you saved by paying cash, and invest that amount?

Honestly, I am in a similar situation. My AD is offering 24 months 0% financing but the likelihood of getting a discount with those terms is slim. I plan on just walking in with cash and I am confident from my preliminary conversations I can get my GMTIIc for 10% - 15% off. If the deal isn't good, I walk away and buy from a trusted TRF seller and will be equally happy.

The argument could be made that I could take my money and make it work for me over the course of the two years. But I know myself. I would probably take the financing and then buy another watch in cash. LOL

Going to get a watch then coming home empty handed sucks! If you're like me, once you get your mind set on something you want it NOW!!

My experience tells me that things always end up costing more than I planned.....but that's life and I haven't regretted a Rolex purchase yet!

Just do it brother......get that watch.....OWN it. Pay for it....screw the financing thing....OWN it all....know that it's YOUR watch on your wrist! It feels good!

The declining value of the dollar lends credibility to the argument that you should keep your cash and take the AD's free money for a year under the 0% scheme. I would elect to do this ONLY IF I was certain to be disciplined enough when, at the end of the finance period, I was sure that the money would be there to make the balloon payment in full. I did this kind of deal one time in my early 20's and I remember that part of the terms were if you didn't pay it off at date of maturity, they hit you with compound interest that almost doubled the principal. Be honest with yourself and if you can do it, take the free money for a year- but make sure you pay it off on time.

Someday, I'll have this as a tattoo if I can ever find a font I like.

The jeweler may or may not be paying to fund the 0% financing. It may be that they are financing internally, have an L+175 bank loan, and just accept this as a cost of doing business. Or, they may be selling the contract to a finance company and receiving only 95% funding. For example, they sell you a $10,000 watch, finance company accepts the 0% deal by paying the dealer $9,500 in which case the financing definitely cost them $500 compared to a cash deal.

What is your BATNA*, what is the jeweler's BATNA?

If you CANNOT strike a deal at $5,000 0%, what will you do? Purchase from Alan Furman for $5,010 cash? What does the cash cost you, is it earning .0000000000001 in a money market account or are you borrowing it from a loan shark at 50% compounded daily? Will you buy it for $Xk on eBay or from TRF trusted seller?

If they do not sell it to you for $5,000 0%, who will they sell it to and when? Will they sell it at 5% off MSRP two weeks from now, or will they have to hold it for a year?

Your strongest position will be with cash in hand and solid knowledge of your BATNA, in other words, you should be able to say "I can buy this watch on TRF for $Xk today, but it would be more convenient to buy it from you today for $Yk, will you do the deal".

Generally he with the strongest BATNA is most able to walk from the deal, and ends up with the better deal.

My $.02.

since you are on the east side, why don't you contact David (DavidSW) and see what he can do for you. He WILL earn your business and will not disappoint.

The watch will literally feel different on your wrist if you pay cash.

Pay cash for a watch from the AD or DavidSW for less. Put the $500/month into silver "cringe" or whatever investment you want. In twelve months if the dollar falls the rolex will still hold its value, plus you can time your buys on the dips over time instead of buying silver on a peak.

Financing involves risk even at 0%. No one knows what the market will do. If I did I would be the first in line to mortgage the house and put the money into silver or whatever.

Good advice, I usually pay by credit card and have the cash on hand to pay the bill off as soon as I get it! :) Do not get caught up in the finance option, I would look on TRF and get a better deal!

I am too far from delaware... Like I said before I saved the money but free money right now with the falling dollar and rolex prices on the rise is the way to go for me.. I am very good with my money.. I have 0 credit card bills , I do have a mortgage and do have 2 cars that are leased but no cc bills.. I am on my way to new york in a hour to hopefully not leave empty handed.. I will not come home with it but hopefully have it shipped to my home in Nj to save the $350 in taxes..

Thank you for all the help and I do understand when you guys say "if you do not have the cash do not buy it" but like I said I worked hard the last few months to put enough money aside to buy it but with the 0% I think I can make money money work in better ways...

Silver will hit $100 a oz.. The fed is printing so much funny money that the dollar will be worthless paper in a few years.. Pretty soon China will catch on the federal reserve and call back it's loans and the dollar will tumble..
