Based on your photo, I think a 36mm would look better.

Its all a matter of personal preference.

However, I have not seen the DJII on a wrist for a while and somehow at 41mm (and I wear 35-45mm) the DJII lost some of that "Datejust-ness." Maybe I am just old school.

+1 on DD...

You won't have a problem at all. I have a 7 inch wrist, and I wear an EX I almost daily. It's all in what you get used to. Now when I go back to my Subs or my SD, they feel big. Honestly, I think the DJ II looks too large.

I thought a 36 would be too small for my 7 1/4" wrist but when I slipped it on the first time it felt like a 'natural'. But my 36 is a vintage yg dd with a presi braclet so I think a big part of the size has to do with the feel including the 'heft' of the 70+ gram bracelet.

This whole ''36mm=too small'' stuff is located between the ears IMHO.

36mm wears very comfortable and looks sophisticated
Agree 100%.

The perception that a watch is too small is often based on fashion trends and not on reality. In the past, watches as small as 27mm across were worn by men with wrists much larger than mine (6.75" or so) and were not considered effete. The length from lug-to-lug is also important. Personally, I would never wear a watch which extends in lug length beyond the confines of my wrist -- it would just look silly. I own a few 40mm watches (a couple of Subs, GMT 16750), but none larger.

Here is a Hamilton Lexington (27mm) on my wrist, a model which was likely worn by many officers in WWII:

And a 1956 Datejust (6605):

x2.
Leaving asides dress watches (which I like a lot),
34-42mm would look normal/good on most wrists.

Have you seen photos of Tom Selleck & Clint Eastwood wearing 36mm DJ's?
Looks ok on their wrist.

I own a DD and DD II, and strongly prefer the DD II. With today's styles, the 36 mm is perfect for a woman's wrist, but too small for a man's wrist, IMHO.

I think that the 36mm looks better in formal settings than the 41mm, but I'm biased ;)

36mm is an absolute classic size for the Datejust. I think it is more versatile and will be more timeless in the future.

James Worthy wears a 36mm DD and it looks weird on him. It should be perfect on you unless you're 6'10 with 8.75inch wrists.

I would say it would look just fine... That being said I prefer to not go smaller than 40mm myself as well. I do like a particular DJ however so I may be right there with you

My wrist is 7.25" and I love to wear my 36mm DJ. Looks perfectly proportioned to me.

You can also ask M&M and Pele, both wearing 36mm DJs or DDs.
I also had a pic of Tony Soprano with a DD, but it won't upload for some reason.

(Thanks to Jake's Rolex Magazine www.rolexmagazine.com for the pictures)

Personally...

I think a lot has to do with a person's attitude. If you feel good wearing it, it will look good on you. If you are uncomfortable and self conscious wearing it then don't bother. Remember, you are wearing the watch for you, not the rest of us.

People might think 36mm is small for a large wrist. I think a YG DD has a more prominent presence than typical SS because of the deep gold tone. 36mm will feel just right. DD II would be too large too bling for most people.

Ok, here is an addition to my reply from last night. Do you think this beautiful 36mm Datejust looks small on my 8+" wrist? I think not.

p.s. sorry for low quality cell phone photo.
