Just Rolex for me and now since I have two again I will refer to them by their model name .
The term " Rollie " reminds me of some kind of people calling Rolls-Royce vehicles "Rollers" .. degrading IMHO . For the rest .. just call it what you like .

I get where you are coming from on the first one, the fact that Guy Fawkes Night is being reduced to Firework Night over here is a disgrace imo but there is a very vaild reason for Xmas being the way it is.

Absolutely correct. 'Rollie' (Rolli) is the accepted photographic industry term used for Rolleiflex. The same as 'Hassel' (pronounced Hazle) is short for Hasselblad.

Reason being that in the rare case of a photographic opportunity that is time sensitive, when working with an assistant and when you own both cameras, (and when the moon is in the 2nd quarter and the Trade Winds blow gently from North, North-West) you can yell "grab me the Rolli!!!"

I always thought folex was a Fake rOLEX! But your definition works too.
I hate the use of "subie" or "subbie", but short forms of sub or sub-c don't bother me at all.
As to the OP I say I don't think it is being too anal, but then maybe that's because I'm rather anal according to some?

Back in the 70's in Canada Victoria Day was often called "fireworks day" especially by children. Then due to a number of horrific accidents mostly involving firecrackers fireworks were banned in many places and it is now either Victoria day or "May 2-4". In Canada a 2-4 refers to standard (large) case of 24 bottles of beer. Fireworks are generally available again (but not firecrackers-people bring them home illegally from the states) but the term fireworks day has not come back. Penny for the guy?

Penny for the guy, you still see that here but not as much as you used to but i'm glad it still happens to be honest, as for Victoria Day re-emerging that's great to hear just now got to hope our ways of celebrating Halloween would do the same rather than the very recently adopted North American interpretation of it

No it's not just you. I feel the same way. That being said, there's going to be two schools of thought on this one. I guess to each his own.

Not to split hairs, but Rolleiflex was one line of cameras made by Rollei. They also made cameras that bore the name Rollei and Rolleicord.

I have a Jag and call it a Jag - sounds natural. Saying out Jaguar fully sounds weird and takes a while, haha.

Merc, "Rollers" (whatever that is), sound funny.

Anal yes but I get it.

Also when people refer to the Explorer as the Explorer I there is the Explorer and the Explorer II.

Doesn't bother me to hear a BMW motorcycle called a Beemer, seems aggressive whereas "Rollie" sounds infantile. "Bimmer" (BMW car) seems eh, but better than calling it a Beemer.

I use both. if i feel like im in a flashy mood, ill say "let me put my rollie on". ahhahah

dont matter to me.

however, i get what youre saying though. it depends, sometimes it might sound ignorant. but i just say rollie cause my friends know that i mess around like that.

i friend has a panamera and some dude one day like his car and was like "nice car man! is that a panamerica?!!" hahahahhahahaha

prefer rolex, but there are times when u can use the word rollie, considering i am only 20 and in my circle of friends it is fine. i see it as a word where u can use in a certain place only...
