Good drills, Serg.

I suspect all of us on this forum should be very grateful for our privilege BUT that doesn't mean we should be made to feel guilty when things are going badly or we're just having a bad day.

On the surface my life is a damn sight more glamourous and "enviable" to an outsider looking in than it seems to me... Don't get me wrong, I'm a lucky guy and overall I'm probably in a better position than 80% of people in the world but everyone is entitled to a rant at times!

Sure, there are children starving in Africa and, don't get me wrong, that IS tragic but, in our own cosseted western world, we all have our individual priorities and "problems", even if those pale in comparison with others...

Vent away, Mate, you're amongst friends.

I was in a job I totally hated about 8 years ago. Round about that time my dad passed away from prostate cancer which not a way I'd want my worse enemy to go.

I put a plan in place to put away as much cash as possible over a couple of years & then jacked my job in the day before my 40th. 3 months off & been contracting ever since. Best thing I ever did.

However, easier to get jobs then, lot harder now.

If you seriously don't like your job - start looking about but don't do anything too hasty

A Job can really kill your work ethic. Find something you really like doing then figure out how to make a living doing it.

I do not love my job. I need it. It'd be nice to find something else to do, but I can't figure that one out ... I've been doing this for too long.

Right there with ya, brother.
Burned out. Need a change. What? I don't know. Need someone to teach me something else, give me a chance and watch me grow. Should have chosen something different 20 years ago. Can't go back.
Regret.

Be thankful for your job. Imagine sitting around a dinner table and explaining to your children that they have to go to bed hungry again because you lost your job and there is no money left to buy groceries. This happened to a good friend of mine who would do anything to have a job to wake up each morning and go to. You dont want to be forced into gratefulness by loosing it all.

I hated my old job but now I am my own boss so things are great. I feel your pain in the IT world though. I love when people call and try to pump all the free help they can out of you on the phone. The best one I ever had was someone wanting me to walk them through installing WAMP.

I hate my job with a passion. I'd probably make more money if I was collecting unemployment.

After reading all of these posts, I feel like something must be wrong with me.
  • I love what I do.
  • I enjoy the people I work with.
  • I am happy with my compensation.

There are very few days I don't feel like going to work: some days I even look forward to it. I consider myself very fortunate and I work hard.

All of that said, NOTHING means more to me that my family time. A true balance is a must.

Family, career and TRF.

I think Grumpy Mark up there hit it right in the head. Of course I am grateful for what I have and what I achieved and feel that I am in a way lucky for the opportunities that I had. Nevertheless, some days are really really bad, that's all.

I thought it was material for an interesting discussion ... maybe not.

I think most people go through periods where they dislike/hate their jobs for a variety of reasons. I would be more than willing to leave my current job if there was something else that came up. No chance for advancement, pay and benefits being raped to help balance budgets. I try to keep a positive attitude and keep it out of the house, but sometimes I can't and the wife calls me on it when I do. You gotta do what you gotta do.

What can I say .. being 10:39PM and still plugging at it because my main architect deployed code on the wrong environment and screwed up production while leaving an empty UAT environment ... I am not feeling the love ... S'pose the beatings are deserved :)

Thank God for TRF ... Nothing like a patina'ed Pepsi pic to cheer you up! ... or the new Explorer 42 ...

Bottom Line (Long Story Short...read the bottom line ; )

As mentioned in a previous, long forgotten post, I really disliked (yeah, hated even) my job of 9 years as a registered representative (read: salesman) of a major insurance company.

Acidosis...migraines...Bell's Palsy, even. (Joshing about the Bell's Palsy.)

It all turned around when I took a huge risk by signing a contract with Bell Atlantic Yellow Pages at the start of my current trade.

I came home to tell my wife that I'd committed to a $1,200 YP advertisement.
(Half page ads were/are pricey!)

She looked at me and ask me if I was "crazy."

After thinking about it for a minute, she commented that $1,200 a year really wasn't too bad.

That's when I told her, "No, it's $1,200 a month."

I don't remember a thing, after that.

20 years have since passed and I love still my job.

That bigger the risk, the bigger the gain.

Dream big.

Just my less than humble 2¢. ( Obligatory, as not to offend.)
