In the past, I suppose I had always considered watches as consumable products. You wear/use one until it stops working, gets ruined, etc. But now, I believe Rolexes are (for a man) like an expensive piece of diamond jewelry is for a woman. Speaking in general terms, of course.

Again (in the past), I also assumed a bit that Rolexes were for very snobbish, very wealthy, retired men. I know, that's awful. Which is why I decided to do some research into my hubby's interest in them.

(exiting confessional now)

That sounds like all of us, right?!?!
A common perception, indeed!

Now that I think of it, my husband gave me a lovely pearl necklace when our daughter (a June baby) was born. It's nice that you can wear something that has so much personal meaning.

Pepsi at age 30. That is 2 months back.
I bought it cos I have not been pampering myself with gifts for years due to my marriage and kid.
It was a bad experience in life for me but I learnt something out of it.
I bought the Pepsi to symbolise the freedom when I broke off with my wife.

We celebrated our 25th Anniversary with His and Hers Rolexes. I was 45 at the time. No flipping these watches. Too much meaning.

I got mine after I passed the Calif Bar exam in 87. I gave my dad the money and he picked up a TT DJ for me in Zurich. I wore that watch daily for almost 15 years then started collecting vintage watches (IWC, Omega, Heuer, Bulova, Movado, DOXA, Hamilton) which limited its wrist time. It has a chip on the saphire that I have not replaced because of the memory relating to it. Since then I have sold off a lot of the vintage stuff to get a GMT II which I recently traded in for a Sub LV which I love. I also sold off some vintage stuff for a Panerai 177 Titanium. I go back and forth between the LV and Panerai at the moment. Now I am wondering whether I should sell of more of my collection for a Daytona. .....

Bought my first Rolex about 1 month ago at 24 years. I always joked to my friends in grade school that I would buy my first brand new submariner before I was 25. Haha, guess I just had to do it. I ended buying LV sub and love it. I wear it everywhere except work. I work in a hospital and for some reason, I just havent brought myself up to wearing it to work yet. But as I said "Yet".

Got my Rolex at 47 and am realy enjoying it, wearing it every day I think this may be the last watch I have to buy except for the fact that I have three sons and this will give me an excuse to buy two more to pass on to them when the time comes

I am a Rolex fan since I saw a friend of mine wearing a TT Blue Sub back in university, this year I'm twenty seven years old and bought myself a nice SS Sub Date to be my first Rolex. Partially it's due to my resignation from the company I used to work for as I decided to get into my own business several months ago. As my new business will start this November, you know what it's like being totally unemployed for the time being especially if you have worked for a Japanese company previously where they force 120% of your workload capacity and suddenly you need to be jobless. Well, the watch successfully makes my days brighter and not that stressful.

I was thirty when I bought my first. It was a SD which I had for about a week on approval from my then local ad. Decided that it was a bit too chunky for my needs/wants so took it back for a straight swap for a ss sub. Thought I was bloody james bond then didnt I.
Kept it for a year then traded the ss sub in for a tt blue face sub. Loved it but did feel a bit guilty for walking around with so much money on my wrist.
Eventually, back in around '92 I had to sell it as I needed to buy a car and was very short of cash.
Back in about 2001 I had got myself back on financial track and bought myself a Breitling SuperOcean Kept it a year and traded it in for the tt Breitling Crosswind with blue face.
The longing for another Rolex kept nagging away at me so earlier this year I tried getting a good deal on the Breit against a new sub. Despite being told by the ad who sold me it that Breitlings were as good as Rolex for resale, all I got offered was crap money.
So, a month ago I bit the bullet and splashed out on a new ss sub with the intention of changing up to a tt bluesy in a years time. However, see my thread 'decisions decisions decisions'

Had a long time not diggin the 80's digital watch bracelet found in the Oyster - when seen from a few feet. Saved up from paper route money in 80's to get a nice "gold" seiko, went from there to the "I'm beach combing in the Pacific who cares about time" years in the 90's. Woke up in 2002 to get a Tag LINK that I never really liked because Rolex kept coming back in my mind at that time as the Cellini YG. I so didn't (and dont') get the DayDate or any other boring in between dress / sports watch. But didn't get Chopin first 20 times either.

Well Photography made me read National Geopraphic thus warming me up to EXP II. The LV jumped at me one day at River Ganges reading TIME waiting for good photography light in 2004. Back in grey winter Denmark it didn't seem right on my pale wrist though.

Opted for the Exp II in may this year, traded it in for the new TT GMT in June. Love it, hate them scratches though. Love Cape Cod. Age 33.

I was 36 when I bought my first Rolex wanna-be (two-tone Tudor) and 39 for my Date Just and the rest is history. However, I've always had Omegas (and other watches) ever since I started my first job. I saved up all my pay during Navy Basic Training and the first thing I did after graduation was buy an Omega Seamaster SS. I was 20 years old!
