For those who can't see the damage: about 7 of the bezel's 100 teeth a buffed and left almost completely rounded. See bezel between number 40 and 50.

If this watch wouldn't be so spotless, I probably wouldn't have cared as much.

I am just anal like that.

dude,

For him to round off those teeth in the bezel, he must have been using sulfuric acid!
I seriously doubt you can do that type of damage with just a cloth and a solution.

If you don't replace it now with an original part you will when you send it in for service to the RSC. They either refuse to work on it because of the fake bezel or change it and charge you for the new bezel. Either you get it now or later. Later you pay for it now someone else does. In the RSC here in Abu Dhabi there is a letter posted saying they will not work on watches with fake parts.

I'm curious as to what it was that actually dissolved a portion of an 18K solid gold bezel.......and yet was safe enough to have been applied with a cloth, by bare hands....

Repair or Live with it?

Having read this thread with interest it seems your considerations are:

Option 1- Fix the watch with the A.D.

Option 2- Fix it using an aftermarket 18K bezel (insert stays original) that costs $420.00 and supposedly looks exactly the same....solid 18K gold too.

Option 3- Keep the $1000 and leave watch as is.

Option 4- If you do replace the bezel you want to keep the original bezel and weigh it in

It is unfortunate what has happend by accident I am sure, but your real issue reads to me how you can benefit from the issue considering options 2,3&4, not so much about putting it right, like it say's on one reply the guy probably lost his job.

If the bezel is original, i believe it should stay original. If the damage is irreversible, then you should get it done at RSC or third party using original parts.

you sure it was rounded because of the mall cleaning? is it possible it was already like that, and you only really looked at it and noticed after the guy cleaned it?

I would definitely choose option three, leave it as is. When it is time for service you can decide if it still bothers you enough to have it replaced.

Speaking of which, does anyone know if Rolex will insist on replacing the entire bezel in order to get the pearl holder fixed?

You complained enough to have been offered 1 K to fix it..Then fix it correctly through your AD and get your watch back to original condition with ORIGINAL parts!!

PS: Next time a kiosk in the mall says "show me your Rolex!", keep on walking!
Makes absolute sense.

The bottom line, if you ask me, is that you had a kid at the mall work on your rolex. Not the most prudent thing in my opinion, for you or the kid. Given that you did that, it seems somewhat inappropriate that you are asking for a new bezel on a used watch, regardless of how much an ad will charge. And given that the kiosk owner will give you compensation for a new bezel, it seems highly inappropriate to be doing anything but putting a new bezel from rolex.

If you pocket any cash, i just think it is bad karma, especially because it is likely that the kid who did the cleaning probably lost his job. You were a willing participant in this situation and if you pocket cash, it doesn't make you look good in the overall situation.

Not necessary. Send it to Bob Ridley or Vanessa who will, I believe return the original bezel. I believe both have parts accounts with Rolex.

Last week I posted about the issue. A sales rep from one of those "cleaning cloths / cleaning green solutions" Kiosk at the mall damaged part of the bezel of my TT Blue Sub (YES dumb me for letting him "show me" how to clean it).

After A LOT of complaining, the owner appears to be on-board to giving me $1000 to fix the issue (that's what the AD quoted to replace the exterior 18K bezel).

Based on the images below of the damage...If and when I get the $1000 cash, should I:

Option 1- Fix the watch with the A.D.

Option 2- Fix it using an aftermarket 18K bezel (insert stays original) that costs $420.00 and supposedly looks exactly the same....solid 18K gold too.

Option 3- Keep the $1000 and leave watch as is.

The images below are not too great, that is the closest I can get with the Iphone. If you notice there are about 7 teeth of the bezel, from number 40 to 50 that are really rounded up...that's what that cloth did to it...it "melted/polished" the gold part too much.

After observing the picture for 5 min, I am still unable to find the detect, what is the problem exactly? maybe its just the iphone, but those are pretty good cameras

- I do not agree that any 'cloth' can remove solid gold, by hand application, in minutes or less.
- The OP has not explained nor answered any of the questions in that regard.
- Just passing the hours on a cloudy Sunday morning I am...time for a sud...

Check out the sharp edge on the bezel right below the marker left of the 50. Those sharp edges has been worn down on the ones to the right of it.

Now I see it. I think pictures from more of a top angle would actually show this better.

I think you're first priority is getting the $1K from this kiosk salesperson, if that's possible. I have a hunch that's going to be your biggest hurdle.
