Go for the Patek! It's simply stunning and very elegant!

I always preferred Pateks but when I look at those pictures I can't help but wanting the Lange more, it looks like they put more effort and details in the dial and it shows. It's a real beauty.

Patek is still independent ... that always tips the balance for me in a close call.

I ended up going with the Patek 5196j. Very happy with the watch. Exactly what I was looking for. Perhaps and ALS next time.

Patek 5196R owner here. In 2008 I originally considered a Lange but ultimately bought the Patek. The reason is simple: to me its a much more beautiful design. I like the display backs and the wonderful Lange decorated movements, but I find that once I buy a watch, I rarely look at the back.
As a side note I believe that Patek hold its value better but I can't substantiate. At the time I bought it for around $14K. The market value for a preowned 5196R now seems to be around $12K . The rose gold with gray dial Calatrava looks like no other watch out there. I understand that the newest generation of 5196 have the opaline dials, so it would be a more difficult decision. |

Does anyone know how to shrink file sizes so that they can be uploaded?

I had a choice of the Calatrava or the ALS 1815 (earlier smaller version) 7 years ago and went with the Lange. It is a beautiful watch and I love to look at it. I am still not sure I made the right decision, though, Patek is one of those iconic watches every collector should own.
