I handled an insurance claim where the guy took of his $10k watch in the bathroom of a Red Lobster while washing his hands. Went back to his seat and realized he forgot his watch. By the time he got back, it was gone.

I checked his claim history...few years back he had gone into a Dunkin Donuts and went into the bathroom. Took off his $5k watch while washing his hands and then went back to his seat. He then realized he forgot his watch and then went back to the bathroom...but it was gone.

Both claims got paid. *sigh*

Why would someone need to remove a waterproof watch while washing their hands?

The envelope was on top of a toilet back in the bathroom of what some would consider one of the finer eating establishments in Kentucky. I didn't touch it or look in it because it wasn't mine nor my business. Not to mention for sanitation purposes it didn't seem like the ideal thing to do. It was very distinctly "lumped" however, so I had an idea of what it was. I went the the hostess booth and asked if I could speak to the manager. He came out and asked what he could do for me and I asked him if I could pull him aside real quick. He looked somewhat nervous, as if he thought I was going to make a big complaint. I told him there was an envelope in the bathroom that wasn't mine and no one else was in there at the time. He asked me to show him and then picked it up. There wasn't a single mark, stamp or seal on it. It was not sealed or even "tongue-tucked", so he opened it and it was two $10,000 bill sleeves that were filled and plastic sealed. He thanked me for bringing this to his attention and offered to comp our visit for doing so. I didn't accept because I was just doing what I would hope someone would do if it was my property. Although, I wouldn't leave my uncirculated 5 figures on a toilet. I like to try and stay on karma's good side as well. In addition to that, something seemed a little off about the whole situation and I like to have as little to do with it as possible. The manager asked if he could disclose my name and number to the owner if he was found and wanted to thank me or something and I politely said that I would rather him not.

One of the more interesting (and somewhat strange) events that has taken place in my years in Kentucky...

I feel the pain this man is going through. So never remove the watch from your wrist - unless you are home!

Isn't that why people have insurance? No?

Admittedly twice was a little daft, if it happens again it should be questioned.

you learn from your mistakes, however the word "Doofus" does spring to mind

Also it makes me smile to think that some numpty is now the owner of a GMT Pepsi but isnt wearing it because it has stopped or only works intermittently. HA Ha Ha
