Should I trade up to get a GMTIIC?

very well put... like most people, i was a huge 007 fan. i thought the 14060m had the strongest link to the original bond sub, and also somewhat recent model, so i decided to get it. all i thought of was getting a sub. got a great deal and it became mine. it was also a present to myself for the hard work i've done in my 20s and thought i deserve a nice watch.

i also have the seiko 7A28-7020 that i searched all over the net for 3 months. it's one of bond's other seiko watches. i have a thread in the non-rolex section for it if interested. beautiful watch.


as for the longines moonphase, i was introduced to this watch by searching for moonphase watches. i saw a patek moonphase and fell in love. but that is out of the budget right now, so i saw that the longines would be an affordable choice until i make my first million. and even after getting the sub and a baume mercier i just sold today, i always talked and eyed the longines...

the gmtiic has always interested me as well tho... it's bold and shiny. nicer bracelet than my current with a modern swag. saw a great deal on it when i rolled back into the forum... damn forums... lol so yeah, that's my story. sorry about the blab...

Keep the sub. Get the Longines and save for a TT GMTII, it'll go fine with brown shoes too.

The Longines first if that's a major consideration for you. A GMTc is easy to get later. Of the two though I would vote for the IIc.

I think the IIc is a better watch, but the $3k difference the dealer is hitting you with seems excessive.

As a diver, not a pilot I would have no interest in trading my Submariner in on the GMT. While a very nice watch it just doesnt have the storied history that makes me want it. The Submariners rich past is a big draw for me and I will wear it proudly for years to come. A GMT might join it sometime down the road but will never replace it.

My advice is to keep the sub, and save more cash, sell some other items/assets to fund another watch purchase. I am saving up for my second Rolex now. I don't plan on selling any of my Rolex watches..., I just like them too much...

I have a GMTIIC which is a great watch, but the one I really want is the 14060. It's a classic piece and it's likely in the twilight of its production run. I wouldn't part with it. Better keep it and save for a GMTIIC.

The Submariner was designed for diving underwater. The GMC was designed for world travelling. Two watches with different intended uses.
I do not consider the GMC and upgrade from the Submariner.

I had the Sub 14060M a while ago. Mine was a 4 liner but still a great watch. Iconic it is. The only reason I sold it was because I had a hard time accepting the bracelet on such a high value watch.
So now I have the GMT 2c. Bracelet way way better. I prefer the maxi dial and the bezel is a joy to use compared to the Sub.
Though I'm not a cyclops fan but than can be fixed.
The clean lines of the Sub you have are fantastic. It really is a great looking watch.
The GMTc actually feels like an expensive watch. The quality is a serious step up over the 14060M .
That said $3000 to change doesn't sound like a great deal. Over here in the UK the 14060M sell for £2600 + and there not getting any cheaper.

I want to thank everyone for chiming in. After thinking deeply about it, it wasn't a hard decision after all. I decided to keep my 14060m. There was a reason why I bought this watch. The history, the stories, and my hobby in collecting 007 watches. I wear it daily now since it is the only "nice" watch I have.

I'll be purchasing the Longines Moonphase within a few days. It's the watch I always wanted prior to the 14060m. Just a beautiful watch in that price range. It'll be a day to day watch when I feel like wearing my brown shoes. HAHA. I got a good deal waiting. $2200 from an AD. Unless any of you know a better deal. Let me know!

The GMTIIC can wait. I do see lots of them floating around and when I'm ready, I'll get it. Beautiful watch nonetheless.

I think I just got caught up in the moment of forum madness... Can't believe I was about to let the 14060m go... I don't think I'll ever let it go. Probably hand it down when I have a son. Thanks again everyone for chiming in. This is too much fun. I'll leave with a WRUW Thursday. Cheers.

Relieved to hear you're keeping the 14060m. Whew!

I've got a non-COSC 2-liner and, believe me, it's never going anywhere. Have also acquired other cool watches along the way (Sea Dweller, DSSD, Daytona, YM) but the 14060 is still super-sweet and in a class of its own; great history, simplicity, timelessness, total and complete coolness.

I think we can all rest more easily knowing that the 14060m is safe in your drawer. And let us know when you've acquired the GMTIIC as well.....

I Swopped a 3 year old seadweller 16600 for a brand new gmt ceramic !
if your like me and not a collector and just like rolex watches then id trade your non date sub , for the new gmt , the new bracelet is solid and must be stronger than the old models and the ceramic bezel is better than thoses older models. The new clasp is also superb too !
The new gmt looks all round sharper than the non date sub with a cyclops and polished middle links , if your a collector sort of guy then stick with what you have , im not a collector and carnt wear more than one watch at a time , so i dont own more than one watch !

IF WE ALL LIKED THE SAME THINGS LIFE WOULD BE BORING !
