No it is not wrong.....after waiting so long go with what you will enjoy wearing for many years to come. You made the right choice, even if you lost money on the deal via restocking fee etc. You made the right choice.

I didn't lose a penny on the trade. They gave me full credit from the first watch I bought without hassle, hesitation or grief! It was a really good experience.

This was my exact experience as well......when I just bought my DEEPSEA 2 days ago.....I had placed a 10% deposit down on a Panerai PAM371 and then few days later saw the Rolex DEEPSEA at an AD in Hong Kong...the Panerai dealer gave me 100% of my deposit back and said buy the chronometer that really makes you happy. You can read my very first post for the story......similar to yours.......we both made the right choice.
