When most people see a TT DJ, they just know it's a Rolex. The same with a SS Sub but to a lesser degree. As for a double breasted suit, they look great but you have to be pretty thin to pull it off, I'm not in that category!!

You are either born to wear TT or your not Period. As a TT man I dont worry about if its in fashion or not. When I slip it on my wrist it just looks good Period.

I consider myself relatively young (27). I'm saving up for my first Rolex and I only have an interest in TT. I also chose a yellow gold wedding band over the current white gold trend that all the young guys are choosing.

Except among perhaps the very young buyer, I don't think it's ever been out of fashion. And today it remains the default look that many if not most women choose, and probably a fair number of men who think of a DateJust when they hear the word "Rolex."

So, I guess I reject the thread premise.

The (1)16233 is the Rolex I see most often in the wild.

Don't be fooled by what you see getting talked about here. TRF-ers' favorites and the general public's favorites don't always match up.

Sales of TT watches are definitely on the upswing, but they're still a fraction of SS watches. Here are 2011 figures for Swiss watches:
Wristwatches by materials
MaterialsUnits (in 1'000) Change in % Mio. of CHF Change in %
Gold 55.7 +26.8% 647.2 +32.4%
Platinum 1.1 +16.1% 58.7 +50.6%
Silver, gold-plated 2.8 +143.5% 5.6 -28.1%
Steel 1,350.6 -0.3% 654.1 +9.6%
Gold-steel 96.9 +8.9% 234.5 +11.3%
Others metals 432.5 +11.1% 108.9 +28.6%
Others 585.2 +2.4% 37.3 +11.3%
Total 2,524.8 +3.0% 1,746.2 +19.5%

So gold/steel sales are up 8.9%, but total sales are 96.9K units, so steel units at 1.3M units still outsell them, by 13:1 despite their relatively flat growth. Even if TT growth rate went to 10% yearly, it would take about 12 years for TT sales to catch up to SS sales unless SS sales shrunk in kind. So SS still seems to be far and away the most popular, based upon sales.

Having said that, this little beauty isn't going anywhere:

I've only been on TRF for a year now, but it feels like I'm seeing more TT (and gold) love here. Although that could just reflect the fact that I read these posts now that I appreciate the gold look.

I always had a impression that two tone just looks much better than just stain or full gold. The subtle combination mixes the feeling of luxury and humbleness. Just me 2 cents.

Maybe it's true with other brands that TT are not in vogue but with rolex they always have been timeless.....
Andelain, you watches are beautiful.....

I have always loved the two tones in the gmt and sub! Not so much on the DJ or Daytona!

Double breasted and suits w/ vests, yes.
FYI....I predict that TT and vestted suits are coming back in style

The best looking Daytona, IMHO, is a TT:

Just purchased my first Rolex, a TT Sub in blue, and I'm 29. The TTs are my favorite, followed by the yellow gold and then the white gold/ceramics.

Couldn't wait to take suits off after work and put on an aloha shirt & jeans. Watch was always the same for years. My Datejust.

I've been wearing my aloha shirts since I was growing up in Hawai'i. Never went out of style for 'me'. But some just never liked them. After obtaining other watches, that trusty
two tone 16013 & a Reyn Spooner shirt's what I've been wearing prob 7 out of 10 days since 1984.

Aloha...
