If I had a 20 year old Rolex and was in Florida I would take it to Rikki from this forum.

I agree. Get it to Rikki. Everything I see about him is very positive.

RSC, pal! For peace of mind, it's the only way to go in this instance.

You should ask if he pressure tested it before getting any water near it. If water gets in many parts begin to rust immediately, best to put it in an air tight zip-lock bag to stop the oxygen from speeding up the process.

No. Rolex will not service unless all non Rolex parts are replace with Rolex parts - at your expense.

If I were you, I'd do three things.

1 - I'd write down everything that happened, from the time you walked in to the time you got your watch back from the guy, and send that to him in a nice letter to explain what has happened to you. Invite him to make it right by reimbursing your money and paying shipping to rolex for the service you should have gotten in the first place, AND, mention to him if RSA says they need to do something to it that is resulting from his work on the watch, that he should reimburse you that too.

2 - call your insurance that covers the watch and let them know this is going on, and send them a copy of your letter to the guy, and any response he has.

3 - send the watch immediatly to rolex, even if the watch guy doesn't want to comply.

and maybe, if needs be:

4. lawyer up. Only if needs be, but in the mean time, just try to work it out in writing with the watchmaker. If he calls back wanting to explain himself, say you're busy and you'd like him to send you an e-mail or response letter. The "he said" "she said" thing always bites the person who didn't do anything wrong far harder. Get it in writing, even if you don't lawyer up.

Best of luck!!!
