Let me see ---you saved for a long time to get something nice for yourself and not sure you want to wear it at work---not following that logic---
wear it---no one will notice and you will feel like a million dollars! |

Absolutely wear it. Heck I am in construction and go to school full time and wear an 18k DD everyday (that I paid for with money made from working). I could care less what anyone says. I have had 9 Rolexes since I was 19 (bought a 6694 at an antique store for 750.00 in 1995 for my first one) and never have worried about it.
I did buy my dad a DJ, though, out of common courtesy because he deserves a Rolex way, way more than I do, and he would never, ever buy one for himself. |

When somebody notices he will think it's fake...
Well at least that's what I think if I don't think someone makes enough to buy one. But who cares right? |

In my year of owning Rolex watches the only people who seem to notice are fellow Rolex owners.

I've owned my Rolex for 7 weeks and have only had one stranger notice and comment on my Rolex. He was a bouncer at a club and he noticed it when I was pulling my ID out of my wallet. Of course he then asked me what I do for a living and how much it cost me: his guess was $15,000 for a TT DJII. I told him the list price of about $11k, even though I got it for 20% off plus no taxes The only other place where people always notice is when browsing other watches. I enjoy stopping by ADs once in a while to try on Rolexes for the fun of it. I've also caught other people staring at the watch, but they don't comment. I don't think DJIIs scream Rolex, except for the cyclopse.

The odds of anyone recognizing it on a bracelet are low already. If it really concerns you, put it on a brown leather strap - absolutely nobody will recognize it as a Rolex.

The 14060 isn't attention grabbing like a TT may be. Most people won't have a clue and you'll feel great wearing it.

completely understand where your coming from....
imho, you can't afford not to wear it! its your HARD EARNED money, you are not a watch collector who should be leaving them in the box/safe with all the plastics on etc... wear it every minute of everyday... think of it as price per day (or hour), it only gets cheaper if you wear it. congratulations!

One of the great things about the 14060 is that is will fly under the radar with no cyclops screaming Rolex. Don't worry about what other may think if they find out, just tell them like you told us that you have always wanted one and saved for a long time to get it. You worked hard and saved for it, enjoy it for life.
Every thread need some pics....here is my 14060

When discussing toys among pals I mentioned my Rolex collection probably cost as much to build and operate one buddy's heavily modified F250 "monster truck" for a month. Put things into perspective real fast Wear yours proudly! You've earned it! |

BE LOUD - BE PROUD!
Don't care what others think. Wear it proudly! You don't need to explain yourself to anyone. I was a LEO for 15 years in ths SF Bay Area and Rolex's weren't that unusual in our ranks. I can't remember any real negative comments, other than people giving each other a hard time or wanting to see the new watch.

Those in the know may comment but nobody else will notice. And if they do, just remember that youve put your money into a mobile bank account while they waste their coin on daily dribble...... frappamochachocochinolatte anyone?

I'm haven't read the reply's, so forgive me if this has already been stated. I understand where you are coming from. I am about to graduate CRNA school in May. My wife and I just has a baby boy in December, and my wife used her last bonus check from the job she knew she was going to lose soon (day after the birth of our child) to buy me a Frog (like that so much better than Hulk, as our nursery theme is frogs...FROG= Fully Relying on God). Anyhoo, I've always been fascinated with time and timepieces, my favorite color is green, and I really love this watch. Now, I'm 43, and while I am a student, I have worked my tail off all my life. My wife has always worked hard and is great at what she does. She was pulling in a little over 100K and I've always made a good salary as a Respiratory Therapist and a Nurse and will make a great salary as a CRNA. That said, we have nearly 200K in debt from school loans and living on some credit cards just to get through this all. So, it probably wasn't a wise dicision financially to drop 7,800 on a watch. We did it because Abby wanted to reward me for my efforts and get an '11 Rolex that will become my childs when he graduates from college. It is a precious item from his dad that he one day will understand is priceless. The way I see it, my Rolex is not ever going to depreciate like any of the new cars that are out there that no one seems to have a problem financing. I wore my watch in clinicals, and QUICKLY realized that it was a HUGE MISTAKE! I immediately started catching grief from anesthesiologists and CRNAs that thought it was a bad move for a lowly student to be wearing such bling so arrogantly! I think that is BS, as I have worked hard for everything I have, but that did not change the fact that I suffered the consequences due to their perception. You seem to be in a different situation, though, as you are an employee and not a lowly student suffering at the hands of clinical preceptors looking for any excuse to make your life a living hell. You saved the money that you EARNED, and you should spend it the way you want to. This is a free country, and the right to do with what you earn however you please is what so many of our forefathers died for. You are considering purchasing a true masterpiece of engineering that will hold it's value as well as just about any purchase you can make; top that off with the fact that you will get to enjoy it every day, all day...well, go for it and wear it proudly! If anyone one has the attitude that you described, just tell them that your watch is a fine example of what ANYONE in this country and most anyone in this world can do/have if they work hard, save wisely, and make good decisions. So in a nutshell...buy the watch, wear it proudly, and wear your beater at work if you catch flack that you cannot bear. Good luck. |
