Agreed.

I want a 216570 bad! It's between that and both new Tudors. I once had the idea to flip my 16710 for the Polar 216570 and then get the two Tudors down the road. I had an immediate moment of clarity and smacked myself for thinking such a thing!

Knowing that the 216570 cannot wear as well as the 16710 (I don't care what anyone says despite its size -- the 16710 is the best fitting sports model ever, especially on SJ!), I would have found a reason to get the 16710 back. That would have been a wasteful flip imho.

So now I am going to ask myself if I want to save more for the 216570 when I get enough saved for the Pelagos. For my wallet's sake I hope I stay the course!

While I do love the new Exp II in white as well, the Pepsi is hands down a better keeper. Until they come out with a Pepsi-C of course.

You can go in any AD and grab an Exp II at any time you wish.

Got this one:

That I flipped for this:

Bad mistake but fortunately I was able to undo the flip.

Then traded the reacquired 16570 for an M/3186 GMT Master II:

which has now been replaced with this:

The 216570 is, at least for me, perfect in every way; right size, legible, well proportioned, superb bracelet/clasp, beautiful dial, great lume, no PCLs, sturdy SS bezel. What more could one ask?

Fr. John has taken us to mass and shown us his progression, what a journey and what a way to upgrade ... 16710 for the 216570 would be a no brainer for me if I was not a hoarder of horological references, however, p_mcgee if you're going to get some wear out of it why not! Good luck

Exactly! Had I taken the "Don't do it, you'll regret it" advice when I was considering flipping my M Pepsi for the 312 I would have missed out on the most fun I've had since getting into watches. Surprisingly, as much as I loved the 16710 & the insert swap options, once bored enough with it to flip.... I haven't missed it a single second in the time I've had my 312. To be honest, I've missed none of the Rolexes I've flipped, 40mm just doesn't do it for me like it used to.

I'd keep the Pepsi. Such a classic piece. I almost bought the new Exp II but when I tried it on at the AD a few months back but it just didn't sing to

I have owned many classic GMT's over the years and don't miss the small crown one bit. I sold my last pepsi when I went to my local AD and saw one of the sales ladies wearing one and it looked better on her wrist than mine.

It is just a watch, if you decide down the road you prefer the 16710, you can always sell the 216570 and get another GMT.

By my count 15 votes to flip the GMT and 20 to keep it. Hmmm...maybe I should start saving up for the Exp2 so I can have both some day.

Sounds like a good idea... In any event good luck with your ultimate decision!

Back to the OP and the question:

I'd do it....basically as others have said if you're not wearing a watch and think you'd wear another more then it's a done deal.

The exp 2 42 may give you more pleasure.....and life's too short to keep something just because it's a supposed icon.

Plenty of them about and you can always go back....it'll cost you of course....but again....life's too short

I wouldn't flip any of the classics for the modern. Save up for the new one, but don't let go of a classic.

Okay. If you must, and you are going to do it anyway, I would only trade it for a year's supply of ribs. I really love ribs

Errr...then you can buy another pepsi GMT? People are deluded if they think these are rare or hard to find. bottom line: get what you want and don't worry about the rest.

Icon14 I did it and no regrets

I had a 16710 M series that I flipped for a black faced Explorer II and have no regrets. Like Fr. John, I see the Exp II as the perfect watch in size, lume, and presence. I also have a GMT-C and after wearing it, putting on the 16710 just seemed like a watch that was too light, too small, lume was so-so (especially compared with the maxi handed GMT-C, and is no comparison to the blue chromolite lume used in twilight conditions). The touch of orange, especially on the black face, provides much more presence than the two-tone bezel of the 16710, and the steel bezel of the Explorer definitely stands out as a professional watch.

Below is a picture pulled from my review at http://www.minus4plus6.com/216570.htm

High Res Here

The Explorer II is larger, but not overbearing, especially on my 6.75" wrist.

Anyhow, I did it and no regrets.

The Pepsi is the icon here. But that fact is not by itself a reason to keep it if you like the Exp42 more.
