These are great insights as I am on the fence between a DSSD and the 42mm explorer.
This is a tough call...

have owned mine for 3 years and love it just as much. Of course, I have several to choose from so I believe it is a must in a collection but if it is your only one then I would say go Sub/GMT. If you own more, then it should be in your collection. It is a beast but boy it looks like an expensive watch. Just had 2 people ask me about it yesterday. It's been on the wrist the last 2 weeks.

I switch between a PAM 112, SD, and the DSSD. I don't notice the weight at all. I forget it's on my wrist. I use it to tell the time and to time things. It's a watch that works all the places I am suit or hunting gear or dive gear or boardroom. It works in my life. I sleep with it on.

I will get bored of it one day and possibly sell it, maybe. I don't know how people are so focused on DSSD vs a SubC in practicality and size.

Car vs SUV. Both get you place. SubC and DSSD. Both tell the time. Can you use both for almost identical purposes, yes.

It is hard not ask when we have TRF as a resource and in human nature to want others opinions on things that we are unsure of.... I am right there as well, not being a hypocrite. All in all, get what you want. If your wrong, switch. Your only right in your own eyes.

I think that you have to go with your gut and forget everyone else with regard to checking out how you feel about the DSSD. It is definitely not right for everyone. That being said, I also don't think that it is necessarily The One watch for a "one-watch person." Definitely agree with the previous posts regarding having it as part of a small collection. But, in the end, I do love The Beast!

All of these threads are a waste of peoples time now. Honeymoon, man/woman/watch. They're the same now. Look at the divorce rate, there's your answer. Just change man/woman/watch for your situation.

I have to say that while the DSSD is a great looking bit of gear, and all respect to current owners, the fart jokes on the inner bezel turn me totally off it.

I've had the DSSD on but

it's way too big imo. If I had a 7.5" wrist or bigger it would be OK. But I'm 7". Not even close. Strictly the thickness. My SD and c-Sub are very comfortable to wear so no need for the DSSD.

Had one. Was in love. Got a divorce. Miss it sometimes but know we're not meant for each other. I would recommend staying away and going with a subc. It's the perfect all around watch.

I wore for a few months and then got rid of. Loved the 42mm size, but found it just a tad too thick. I like the watch, but comfort is important. Go for a spirited run with it and that should convince you, and for me that is something a sport watch should do comfortably.

I have owned a few watches in my time but I was just thinking today if I were to have only one Rolex it would have to be my DSSD. I do have a large wrist 8 1/2" and it looks just right. I have had many complements on this watch.

I had my SD first, then added the DSSD to the collection. Both are great watches, love wearing both. But to be honest, the SD the is the best daily wearer! I love wearing the DSSD also, but really only for weekends or days that I don't have to work. The problem I found is that when I'm at the office all day on the computer, the DSSD top weight does tired out my hand. But if I'm not on the computer and the watch just hangs on my wrist, I can wear it all weekend or week on vacation without any problem whatsover.

The first couple of months of ownership I wore DSSD everyday, but now back to SD as daily wearer. Was considering selling the DSSD to my buddy, but I figure I might miss it too much and then have to repurchase again, so decided to keep it. Also wife actually don't want me to sell any of my watches, that's a plus!

That is the first time I've ever heard that. Usually they either don't care or want you to sell everything you don't wear. Wow!

IMO, the DSSD is like a stripper. Big, bodacious, and exciting. Fun to ogle, would love to have, but not the sort to take home or live with everyday. PS: no disrespect intended to the male/female strippers in the audience!

+1

This thread has helped me immensely. I now know that the DSSD is in my future but not for a while, not until I've enough depth in my collection to rotate accordingly. Sub C or Explorer II is next for me.

Totally agree with this (I guess it makes it "200%").

My DSSD gets occasional wear but I REALLY like it when I do. It's perfect for occasions that allow a little more assertiveness. Would not be my choice for first/only Rolex.

Haha, you think you have a small wrist, my wrist is 6 1/4 so im way smaller than most on this board. Thats why a DSSD is difficult to wear, at least for me.........

Interesting that many of the previous owners stopped wearing it daily after 1 or 2 years... How long have you worn any daily watch? I rotate between a few, but would have a hard time wearing the same watch for more than 1 or 2 years, not matter what it was...

For what its worth, I im looking to trade in my TT Blue Sub for DSSD, but it will be a weekend watch with my PAM 088...

Solid thread this. I am looking for the right DSSD with the intention to wear it more or less daily like I do with my 14060M. I`ve realized that that might not be a practical solution

I still have my TT Blue Sub that I had worn since '92 (before that an '85 TT Black Sub - traded), but all it sees is the closet because of the DSSD.

+1 I wore a TT 16613 since 1996. It hasn't been out of the safe since the DSSD arrived. It is a phenomenal watch.

I've had my DSSD for about 1.5 years now and I like it more and more every day. Once its adjusted it is a very comfortable watch to wear. It is a little top heavy if you dont have the bracelet adjusted just right but the glidelock clasp makes fine adjustments a breeze. I never wear my SD anymore so I gave it to my girlfriend. I really dont wear my Panerai 328 or DJ II anymore either. I think I'm going to pick up a ROO since I think that would be the only watch I would actually want to rotate the DSSD with. The DSSD seems to be a personal choice, some love it and some hate it. The only way to know for sure is to try it for yourself and make your own decision.

I am so glad to have one of the last Sea dweller 16600, (Z serial 2006), just perfect and iconic , I would not want the DSSD , a huge and heavy wall clock on my wrist !!! Maybe Rolex will understand that not many like the DSSD and so many like the original SD !! I hope that they sell so few of the DSSD and go back to making the SD !

Simply not true. Many, many people (especially on this forum) love their DSSD. I owned a few original 16600 SDs and it is a special piece of Rolex history, but I definitely prefer the DSSD. It is such a magnificent piece of engineering that really needs to be experienced in person to be fully appreciated.
