Just had the same experience a couple of months ago. $8690 with tax to be exact from an ad in ny. Within a couple of days I didn't give the money spent a second thought and absolutely love my sub c. Not a single regret here.

Once you actually get the watch, that feeling will go away in a microsecond...

Just go through with it, you won't be disappointed, and as others have said here, you only live once, etc.

Cheers,

personally, i dont feel those types of doubts are necessarily money related (ie you dont have enough).

i think it comes down to just having some natural doubts about spending that much (whether youve got enough to burn or not) on a watch - is it REALLY going to make me that much happier than something a quarter of the cost, am i crazy for spending that much money on a watch when there are tons of other options, is it really the one i want...i think its more maybe tiny doubts about those types of things...at least it is for me when i hesitate

Tom Cruise said it best in Risky Business. Sometimes, you just have to say, what the f**k. You only live once. Do it.

You know you want it... Right? Make the purchase if you can. I believe all of us might have some reservations spending that much in this market. With that said every time you look at this watch you will know what you have accomplished to get to this point.

Buy yourself a gently used ND Sub and pocket the rest.

Yes, but it was $6,000 for the 16610 Subdate three years ago. Doesn't seem that bad now.

I always have issues spending money. I work hard for my loot, and take issue spending it! LOL!

That said, I do my best to "buy right." The good thing about watches is you can buy the right ones and not loose much on them... not so much with cars, for example. I have a Vette in the garage that is awesome, and while I bought it "right" and could get my inital cost back out of it, insurace and dumba$$ VA personal property taxes is the nasty plague that never goes away.

Gotta live, and have toys along the way I say... as long as you can afford them. I am fortunate to own some nice things, and will buy more, however, I will cringe when I stroke the check! Your in good company!!! :-)

I used to spend all of my spare money on junk just to make me feel happy for a short while, until I purchased my Rolex that is. Now I actually have more money to myself at the end of each month because I've never had the urge since to buy junk. Every time I look at my GMT it makes me smile. I'm sure it has a spell over me. You can't go wrong with a Sub either.

I'll join everyone else saying "do it."

And, to me, a little trepidation is totally normal. I've felt it every time I've added to the collection.
But that feeling is fleeting compared to how happy you're going to be every time you look at your wrist.

Do it - when my Rolex arrived i was underwellemed, i sort of expected more for the money. Then as each day passes you start to realize why, the watch seems to grow to life and the detail and expertise that you will have invested in becomes more and more aparent.

I don't regret it - its realy a case of if you can afford one and want one then do it.

A Rolex is the gift that keeps on GIVING!! GO FOR IT!!

Be careful as it's a slippery slope...when I got my SD in 2008 I swore it would be my last watch...then a SS Daytona came in 2010....then a ND Sub in Dec '11, then a PAM 292 in Jan '12....followed by Sub LV (16610 LV Random) in Feb '12....soon to be joined by the new Expy II black face....then the new ND Sub when it's released this Summer.....see what I mean?!!

Good luck with the decision and wear it in good health!

I say go for it. Here's why.

In 30 years, as you're collecting your well-deserved and record-setting fifth Oscar for Best Actor in a Lead Role, I'd like to be able to nod at the screen, scratch my nether regions and gruff: "Oh yeah. I remember when we helped that kid buy his first Rolex."

Just buy it, but throw your car: you will be more happy, slimmer and will not have second thoughts anymore. (you will serve the planet too)

That's not a joke: I'm doing it. (finishing my old 260.000km peugeot and never a car again)

When I bought my first Rolex I went through the exact same thing you are going through. I'm going to spend $5000 on a WATCH?! It was my first watch and I almost bought it two or three times before. Finally I got it. Once the watch was in my hands and it was mine, all those feels of spending 5k went away and very soon after I had the feeling it was the best 5k I ever spent!

Be warned, you are about to cross a threshold that is hard to go back. I thought this would be my one and only watch. Let's just say that plan didn't work out!

Also, the watch on your wrist will give you confidence. It also will enhance your value and your brand to your perspective employers since its scientifically proven that your appearance if it's favorable tends to make you more successful and attractive to those around you.

And hey, you're about to be in a big movie. The money will come. Reward yourself for your achievements thus far. "a crown for every achievement". If you've been thinking about it for this long just pull the trigger.

And yes for me as well, but it was $4,000 for the 16610 Subdate six years ago. At the time my justification was that it was something like $500 below MSRP.

Now it feels like I made out like a bandit. Do it, you won't regret it!

Perfectly natural IMO.

I get that same feeling before committing large sums of money for anything -- be it a mortgage, a car, or a watch.

In fact, being a natural born miser, I sometimes get that feeling before committing small sums, too.

Don't think of it as spending 8k, but instead, you're wearing 8k on your wrist.

Even better if you can get one for closer to 7k, then in a few years, if you ever need to sell it, you'll likely get the full 7k back.

So, you're not really spending money, the money is right there if you need it.

I think it's normal to feel that way for your first purchase. Listen to you wife! It will make you work that much harder if you buy it. And remember it will only increase in price and will probably be $10k in two years so buy it now. We all know watches are not investments per se but some, like a Sub C and a Dayona SS are $$$ in the bank in that you can always sell them and recoup most of your funds if you ever need to. But you probably wont since your gonna be a movie star! So...Just buy it and sit back and relax for a bit and enjoy the ride

The way I justified it, was not to think im spending $8k, but rather trading the money for something more tangible. You can always sell the watch and get a large portion of the money back if you need/want to. I prefer to buy pre-owned and let someone else suffer the initial depreciation. For exmaple, I bought a DSSD last year $7500. With the price increase I am confident I could at worse break even if i decided to sell it. As bad as interest rates are, buying a rolex is like money in the bank :)

Yes you see Justin, what I have been researching lately is that it is very possible that it is more fun and exciting searching for a Rolex to buy than it is actually owning one!
