I tried on a 36mm DJ for the first time in my life yesterday (at the new Rolex boutique in NYC). Even with my smaller wrist, 6.5", it looked... small. I've been wearing either a GMT or Sub for a while now, and a 42mm Oris divers watch for years before that, so maybe that has something to do with it. But honestly, I was rather underwhelmed with the smaller DJ.

I agree that the 36mm is classic and looks great on many, but there is certainly a place for the DJII as well. 36mm watches happen to look tiny and sad on my wrist so I prefer 40-42mm (max) watches. I all boils down to personal preference :)

My wrist size is 7.75 and the datejust 36mm fit me perfect. It also depends on what your used too, If you have 44mm watches and then switch to 36mm, it might feel small and take some time to get used to.

I sold my DJ because to me it looked too small on my 7.5 wrist. That was before I owned any watch 40 mm or larger. I think 40mm is the sweet spot but there are some fine looking 36mms posted here that look perfectly fitted. To each his or her own I guess.

I am surprised not to see enough posters replying that you must try them both on and pick the one you personally prefer, as you and only you will own it and wear it.
A 36 mm Rolex Oyster case, like a DJ, will wear much larger than a 36 mm watch from other brands. Wrist presence is a function of thickness, lug shape and polish, the bezel, height of the watch above the skin, etc. etc etc. The 36 mm DJ 'wears big' compared to other brands. I like the look of the new DJ II on a truly big framed guy. I'm 6'1" 190 lbs and it looks goofy big on me. Plus the choices of metals, dials, bezels and bracelets gives the 36mm DJ seemingly endless possibilities. Not so much for the DJ II. |

I love several 36mm models but I feel that they are just too small for me.

It really is personal preference. I gifted my 36mm DJ to my wife, but that's because I prefer 40-42mm and I'm 5'3" 140lbs with 6.75" wrists. So it really boils down to what you like. I also like to drive a bigger SUV. Perhaps because I'm a smaller guy, i like bigger things. :)

My wrist is 7 1/2" and I had the same concern when shopping for a dress watch last year. I finally decided on the DJ because of its classic size:

A 36mm Datejust or Day-Date looks good in pretty much any wrist. It might not be to everyone's taste, but anything thinking it doesn't belong 'on a real man's wrist' got issues bigger than we can solve on an online forum.

It's not a trick question.
I mean where is the cheapest place. I know it all depends on the exchange rate. But usually the cheapest. The current price of a Rolex I'm looking at is £6650 |

I have 7.25 in wrists and this is a 34mm (!) Air King. I don't think it looks too bad, so you should be ok with a 36mm piece.

Hi, I think the 36mm is a great size,I have an explorer 1 and its absolutely fabulous to wear.
It all comes down to your own wrist but I'd go for 36mm |
